[livejournal.com profile] dsudis's response to me telling her the following amused me, so I'm curious now to know how others' reactions would break down.

[Poll #433157]

I'm assuming anybody who thought that made sense is also familiar with Beautiful Thing because, uh, otherwise I have no idea where you're coming from either. But, yes. Sigh. British queer coming-of-age movie about working-class boys falling in love. First kiss/love scene type thing happens in Jamie's bedroom while his mother is watching the Sound of Music in the apartment, and "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" is playing. (This is right after the sexual tension and hurt/comfort-iness -- Ste comes from an abusive family -- of the halfnakedness and backrubbing and ointment scene.)

I saw this movie right before I turned seventeen, just a couple months before I really started to get into slash and fandom, and I think it must have, like, *formed* half my buttons. Or possibly just made me aware of them for the first time. Mmmmm. I really should buy it on DVD soon.

The sad thing is -- I've never seen the Sound of Music, so I only think of gay sex! And sigh, I love that movie so, so much. You should buy it on DVD, though you'll never get anything done, because that's all you're gonna want to watch. Ste and Jamie!

Well, if you *had* seen Sound of Music, it would just make you think of Nazis going courting, too, so it's probably just as well.

This whole train of thought is quite frightening!

What, even with the explanation?

The idea of courting Nazis marching down a central street, loudly singing....I am sixteen, going on seventeen....

Now that tune is in my head!

Your explanation makes sense...it's just scary ::grin::

I haven't seen the movie, but it made perfect sense to me.

In my defense, I am very sleepy.

Awwww. *cuddles the you*

I think when you're sleepy enough, anything can be connected to gay sex.

I've got that movie on DVD, as with Get Real.

And yes, it makes perfect sense.

When I hear 'Sixteen Going On Seventeen' I automatically sing out loud...

You are sixteen going on seventeen, seventeen going on eighteen, eighteen going on...

I used to annoy the hell out of my sister this way. By the time it goes to twenty it starts to sound like (to me anyway) the times table. So then I go...

Twenty going on twenty-one, 3 x 3 = 9, 3 x 4 =12...

On top of that the times table has to be sung out in Korean cause otherwise it does not make sense! Also I start with 3 times table cause that's my favourite!

*rolls eyes* Whatever. If I had no good reason, then it'd be scary, sure. But a movie scene like that is a completely nonscary reason! Bitch.

It is not my fault you have insufficient cultural reference points!
