Query for Smallville fandom folks with better memories than me: I realize that SV had so many weird pet peeves and rants it's hard to keep them all straight, so at the point this far away from all of them, I may simply be making stuff up. Am I imagining somebody's rant about certain dialogue formations? I seem to remember somebody on my friends list at one point responding to it at one point to explain that, no, all of the following ways of doing dialogue are technically correct--

1. "Hi," said Pearl-o.

2. Fox nodded. "Isn't that cool?"

3. "Sure." Nifra did some more jumping jacks. "I'm a spaz!"

4. "Oh my god," said Lyra, pushing her way to the front of the line. "What on god's green earth?"

So, am I on crack? Did I just take the weird present/past tense fights and let my mind decide the fandom was completely insane, or does my brain has some basis in reality for this?

I remember [livejournal.com profile] thamiris had a thing about how she didn't care for just line after line of "Nifra said/Pearl-o responded" types of dialogue without any kind of description or other stuff involved.

*nod* Hmm, okay. I was thinking it was sentence type 2 that somebody was having peevishness about it.

I think it was along the lines of not caring for something like this:

Fox nodded. "Isn't that cool?"
Nifra smiled. "Yeah."
Fox took a sip of her drink. "You're a spaz."
Nifra shook her head. "I know you are but what am I?"

Me? A spaz? Surely you jest. All of you. You should all be ashamed.

I don't remember, dammit! I think maybe? For some reason I was thinking Hope was the one with the response post, but of course her journal's gone now.

I am choosing to believe those are not just random lines, but rather four lines taken from your new epic fic.

I think you should post more parts. On a daily, or possibly hourly, basis.

Also? *adores!*

Oh, no, that's PLAGIARISM.

I would not want to be fandom wanked for stealing your brilliant idea!

I don't think this is the post you're referring to, but Punk has a similar (and very entertaining) post on the same subject here:

Someone said they weren't?

I have a problem with people who think "Four-score and seventy years ago...," smiled Abraham Lincoln. is correct dialogue, but that's a different issue.
