Also, today is totally the sort of day made for stupid lyric guessing games. (I am leaving my room for class in the next ten minutes, though, and I won't be around for a few hours, so I'll be updating slower than usual.)

You know the rules. A couple of these are covers; I'll take either the artist I have or the most well-known one.

1. Telephones make strangers out of lovers
Whiskey makes strangers all look good
-- Old 97's, "Niteclub", [livejournal.com profile] corinna_5

2. I just found me a brand new box of matches, yeah
And what he know you ain't had time to learn
-- Nancy Sinatra (or cover by Sarge), "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'," [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh

3. I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow get me way down
-- The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, "Hard Candy Christmas," [livejournal.com profile] untappedbeauty

4. Her hair so high
It starts to sway
When she brushes her teeth
Five times a day

5. It makes me real pissed off
It makes me wanna say fuck
-- Ben Folds, "Rockin' the Suburbs", [livejournal.com profile] annakovsky

6. Let's tell it how it is, and how it could be
How it was, and of course, how it should be
-- Salt n Pepa (or cover by Max Raabe), "Let's Talk About Sex," [livejournal.com profile] cmshaw

7. I have no need of friendship
Friendship causes pain.
It’s laughter and it’s loving I disdain.
-- Simon & Garfunkel (or cover by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes), "I am a Rock," [livejournal.com profile] cereta

8. We were doubly blessed
Because we were barely seventeen
And we were barely dressed
-- Meatloaf, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," identified by [livejournal.com profile] funkyreunion

9. So many rules and so much opinion
So much bullshit but we won't give in

10. But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free
I've got nothin' but affection for all those who've sailed with me
-- Bob Dylan, "Mississippi," [livejournal.com profile] minervacat

11. Even though we're playing in our garage
Soon we'll have a massive entourage
-- Josie and the Pussycats, "Josie and the Pussycats," [livejournal.com profile] fox1013

12. You seem like a perfect fit
For a girl in need of a tourniquet
-- Aimee Mann, "Save Me," [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie

13. You nature lover, you country punk
You bowl me over, and I'm not that drunk
-- Kristin Hersh, "Like You," [livejournal.com profile] mosca

14. All these men that you made
How we wither in the shade
-- Iron & Wine, "On Your Wings," [livejournal.com profile] soapdemon

15. There is far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
-- Lion King, "Circle of Life," [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh

12 is Aimee Mann's "Save Me". I know 6 but I can't name it - it's Ben Folds or Beck, and how funny is it that I'm getting them confused?

#7 - I Am A Rock, Simon & Garfunkel.

And... Johnny Cash covered The Battle of New Orleans? Really?

Simon and Garfunkel is right, but cereta apparently got it like a split second before you.

And dude! You never heard Johnny Cash's version of the Battle of New Orleans? I love it. There's a part where he doesn't even bother trying to sing the words and just starts going "ba ba bah." I would upload it and share, but I bought my mp3 of it off iTunes.

Indeed it is. I actually have this song done by Sheryl Crow somewhere, too, but that cd is packed away at my house I don't know where.

the dixie chicks cover it, too, on their live album. bob's is my favorite but i think sheryl's is the best, and [livejournal.com profile] fitofpique once wrote an angel fic about lindsey called "last night i knew you, tonight i don't" which has permanently linked that song with angel in my head.

Someone beat me to guessing Hard Candy Christmas. I downloaded that song just a few days ago. I was listening to it the other night. I love it. The upbeat chorus of someone trying to paste on a fake smile and seem like everything is fine when it isn't. I love it.

Just felt the need to randomly share.
