Lyrics game, because what better use for a Sunday afternoon?

These aren't completely random, as always; they're all from my frequently-played playlist. Therefore, anyone who knows my taste really well has an unfair advantage. Two of these are covers are more well-known originals; you get extra points for knowing who's singing. The same artist doesn't appear twice.

1. I cannot fall in love, you'll never see my eyes, I will not call you back, I cannot do the smurf -- Rilo Kiley, "The Frug", [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy

2. I will not pretend, I will not put on a smile, I will not say I'm all right for you -- Martha Wainwright, "Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole", [livejournal.com profile] janet_carter

3. I can gather all the news I need on the weather report -- Simon & Garfunkel, "The Only Living Boy in New York", [livejournal.com profile] marginalia (this one there is no yousendit link for because I bought the song off iTunes)

4. And you don't have to call me Merle Haggard (anymore), even though you're on my fighting side -- David Allan Coe, "You Never Even Called Me By My Name", [livejournal.com profile] obsessivemuch, no yousendit link

5. We filled his head with cannon ball and powdered his behind, and when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind -- "The Battle of New Orleans", [livejournal.com profile] marginalia, no yousendit link

6. I met up with my common sense, and I knew her by the rose in her hair -- Bishop Allen, "Things Are What You Make of Them", [livejournal.com profile] dredpiratejenny

7. I called your name in a whisper so you wouldn't hear me and turn around -- Kasey Chambers, "You Got the Car", [livejournal.com profile] minervacat

8. Oh God, the man I love is leaving, won't you take him when he comes to your door? -- Sarah McLachlan, "Hold On", [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun, m4a file

9. And she's awfully blunt with no tact, you gotta like a girl like that -- Sarge, "Fast Girls", [livejournal.com profile] mosca, no yousendit link

10. Love is a tired symphony you hum when you're awake -- Iron & Wine, "Lion's Man", [livejournal.com profile] dredpiratejenny, m4a file

11. That weren't no DJ, that was hazy cosmic jive

12. I believe in love, but it don't believe in me -- Old 97's, "Rollerskate Skinny", [livejournal.com profile] marginalia, m4a file

13. Come on now, honey, bring it on, bring it on, yeah, just remember me when you're good to go -- Dandy Warhols, "We Used to Be Friends", [livejournal.com profile] fox1013

14. Why can't you tell me, is it worth the fight? Do I sound crazy, well I just might.

15. If men and wine don't kill me, the one more plan to find

16. Nothing lasts forever, we'll always be together, nothing lasts forever, my heart is yours -- Headstones, "Blonde and Blue", [livejournal.com profile] shellmidwife

17. And I tell the man I'm with about the other life I lived, and I say now you're top gun, I have lost and you have won -- Dar Williams, "When I Was a Boy", [livejournal.com profile] epj

18. Isn't it enough to know I ruined a pony making a gift for you? -- Jonathan Coulton, "Skullcrusher Mountain", [livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee

19. I charm you and tell you of all the boys I hate, all the girls I hate, all the words I hate, all the clothes I hate -- Franz Ferdinand, "The Dark of the Matinee", [livejournal.com profile] mollita, m4a file

20. Begging on my knees, baby won't you please, run your fingers through my hair

I know what you listen to. I just rarely recognize song lyrics because I don't know the songs.

Wow. There are lots of these that I almost know.

#8 is Sarah McLachlan-- I think it's "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy," but it might be "Fear."
#9 is "Fast Girls," by Sarge. I love so much that you listen to the various Elizabeth Elmore projects.

Punk got the Sarah McLachlan one -- it was "Hold On."

And man, Sarge. I think The Glass Intact is seriously one of my favorite albums ever.

#20 - Joan Jett...? I'd have to look up the title, though, which I think is against the rules...
