Fraser: Oh, great.
[his dad is sitting on his bed]
Robert Fraser : Move over.
[Fraser shifts, making room for his dad to lie down beside him in the twin bed]
Robert Fraser: The eyes are the first to go.
Fraser : Hmm?
Robert Fraser : You start to miss things that you used to be able to see. Worse still, you start to see things that aren’t there anymore.
Fraser: Well, I’m not seeing you, I’m dreaming you. Would you move your shoulder?
Robert Fraser: Are you asleep?
Fraser: I’m dead to the world.
Robert Fraser: Are you sure?
Fraser: I’m a log.
Robert Fraser: You don’t look asleep.
Fraser: Well, I am. So, if you wouldn’t mind, I could really use a decent night’s rest.
Robert Fraser: Oh.

5/8/05 06:53 (UTC)Actually, I watched a lot of episodes tonight (I just got S2 on DVD the other day) but that one was among them.
And I was not at all thinking horrible Benton/Bob incest thoughts during the bed scene. Nope, not a bit.
God, someone get me a psychiatrist.

5/8/05 18:28 (UTC)Also, you just managed to squick me out! Hee. That's not easy to do! (For some reason, while intergenerational incest can turn my crank, crossgenerational carries no interest for me.)
Actually, I have trouble seeing Benton/Bob, just because their relationship is so based on the emotional distance between them, you know? Even a gross wrong squicky connection is a connection, of a sort we don't really see between them.

5/8/05 21:38 (UTC)I see what you mean about emotional distance, but I guess I also see Fraser as craving some kind of closer connection to his father. Which is to say, not the kind where Bob pops up at odd moments and gives useless advice, but the kind where Fraser actually feels loved.
So in the right emotional circumstances I could see Benton/Bob happening. But it would not be pretty, and afterwards I think Fraser would be absolutely shattered and guilty and possibly suicidal. Because once again he would have sought an emotional connection at the expense of all his moral feelings.
Not something I'd actually write. Probably.
