schmerica: (other: sparkly angst)

So, the other thing I have been doing this week, besides having icon frenzy and reading Meg Cabot novels, has been watching the first season of Six Feet Under. (Please note the perfect timing La Soeur and I have in starting this series the same weekend it goes off the air. We're impressed, too.)

Things that have run through my mind while watching these episodes:

+ It is amazing how all four of the Fishers came off as totally unlikable yet fascinating in the pilot, and then slowly made their way to completely sympathetic assholes.

+ Dude. When did Peter Krause go from being "Hot Guy's Best Friend" to being "Hot Guy"? Wow.

+ You would think the Brenda-Billy relationship would hit every single button of my huge Brilliant Hetcest kink, but it doesn't, really. Although it is fascinatingly fucked up.

+ The finale fails for not resolving the Claire's-boyfriend-the-armed-robber subplot. I TAKE AWAY POINTS.

+ Why must dvds be so expensive? Le sigh. I want to watch the three other dvd seasons all right now!

+ I am actually almost entirely spoiler-free for this show, which makes it pretty much impossible to look at anything on the internet about it anywhere. Seriously, I know nothing about what happens in the next three seasons, which is weird for me, because I know it is OUT THERE and I am RESTRAINING myself. (I do know a tiny bit about what happens in season five, though, simply from random fannish osmosis.)

+ I had more thoughts, but it is really late and I don't remember what they were.

The library had S1 and S2, last I checked, although there can be a wait. I ended up renting S2 from Blockbuster (probably cost as much as buying it, though).

There are four seasons total? Yay, two more seasons for them to try to get me not to despise Brenda utterly.

The problem I have with getting dvds from the library is it seems to randomly send you any one of the discs from the season.

There are five seasons total, but the fifth season just ended last week and isn't on dvd yet.

It used to be possible to reserve a specific copy. The librarians will sometimes be helpful on that matter, too.

Some libraries circulate the season as a set, and you can reserve that copy and get all the discs at once.

Hmm. I'm in Washington County, and I usually just reserve things using the website (http://www.wilinet.wccls.lib.or.us/polaris/default.asp) -- the problem I have in this case is that when I look up dvd sets, some of the libraries have the set as one item all together, and some libraries have individual discs, but placing a request doesn't really let you choose one specifically.

Okay, I think you can. When you search for a title, it gives you a list of libraries that hold it. Don't hit the "place request" link because that will just give you whatever is free first.

Instead, go down to all the individual lines, find the one that says 6 discs or whatever and click on the little graphic to the left of the call number, it's a little hand holding a book. That'll let you request that specific copy.

Oh, awesome -- thank you, I am apparently less computer literate than I thought; I will definitely try that.
