24/12/05 07:38So I'm up at seven a.m. with the small children who are visiting (who are cute as buttons, by the way, but awfully tiring) and we're sitting in the living room lying on the couches with our blankets watching The Lion King -- and suddenly I have this huge flashback memory to being and having seen the movie however many times and suddenly for the first time watching it and realizing how much Disney was ripping off paying homage to Shakespeare. When you are in middle school, this seems like a BRILLIANT and INNOVATIVE realization, you know. Like, wow!
(I bet if Fraser watched The Lion King, he would comment on the parallels and debt to Hamlet. And then Ray would be all "Uh, whatever, it's a kid's movie." And then Fraser would do a little thing on kid's theatre and literature and all the themes and deeper stuff they deal with, and Ray would be bored silly. Aw, my boys.)
