a) Redid my journal design! Color scheme is courtesy of this generator, which somebody on my friends list linked to months and months ago. Boring and girly -- MY FAVORITE. Yay.

b) [livejournal.com profile] lalejandra says I am fired because when we were looking of [livejournal.com profile] eliade's kink list this evening, I suggested to her Duck MacDonald was a selkie. Whatever!

c) Ray Kowalski is convinced that Ray Vecchio is a homophobe, and points to this as the decisive factor in their antipathy and disdain for each other. "Look," Ray Kowalski says, when Fraser mildly entreats him to make more of an effort, "it's not my fault, Fraser. To him, I'm always gonna be the guy who made the Mountie a queer, okay?"

Fraser knows Ray Vecchio much better than Ray Kowalski does, and he doesn't believe this to be a fair assessment of his character. Fraser believes (though he does not share this knowledge with Ray Kowalski) that Ray Vecchio would dislike and resent Ray Kowalski just as strongly no matter what set of genitalia he might possess.

It's because Vecchio is a total fag, but can't admit it. That's what you get for being Italian. Ray, for his part, is fucking glad he's a Polack. They only got clogged arteries and a weird thing for the Virgin Mary.

Cause, see, that's the difference between them -- well, one of the differences, there's a lot of differences, Ray can tell you that -- but Ray is plenty smarter than Vecchio. Because when Vecchio had the Mountie head over heels for him, he didn't even bother to notice, let alone do anything about it, let alone stick around. And now maybe he's back but it's way too late, because you don't ever get a second chance, and Ray has won.

So Ray's gonna take this ball -- har har -- and run with it, not just to say a big FUCK YOU to Vecchio, but to get Fraser right where Ray wants him, which is in bed, moaning, and in general not acting like the buttoned-up Mountie everyone else sees when they look at him. Ray knows better than anyone that Fraser ain't perfect -- and maybe that's part of what Fraser likes about him, likes better than Vecchio. Ray wouldn't be disappointed if Fraser tried to run off with his old girlfriend -- Ray wouldn't look sad and frown a lot. Ray would fucking kick his head in.

Honestly, this isn't a problem Fraser has ever had to deal with before. He's had friends in his lifetime, of course, but few as close and dear to him as either Ray -- and certainly never at the same time, and not in such opposition to each other. It's a rather uncomfortable position, really. But he and Ray Vecchio manage to go along as they always have, easy and fine, without dwelling on the changes that have occurred. And Ray Kowalski -- well, Ray may be fond of random insults and bizarre non sequiters, but that's one of his endearing traits, when it's not one of his most frustrating.

("If you ever leave me for Vecchio," Ray said one morning over breakfast, "you know I don't think I could take that."

Fraser had been drinking juice when Ray decided to let this out; he choked a little, spluttering.

Ray continued, "I'm serious, Fraser. You ever do that to me and I'm talking, like, eunuch city."

"You are unhinged," Fraser said, and Ray cackled over his cereal bowl.)

Ray Vecchio, for his part, appears not to have noticed Kowalski's newfound dislike of him. Perhaps it's because Ray Vecchio is still dealing with Kowalski's old dislike of him. Perhaps it's because Ray Vecchio is dating Kowalski's wife -- "Ex-wife, Ray," says Ben; "You telling me what I already know, Fraser?" Ray demands; "Of course not, Ray," says Ben -- and Stella Kowalski doesn't seem to have ever been happier in her entire life, or so Ray's mother says when she has them -- Ray (Kowalski) and Ben -- over for supper.

"Never seen her happier," repeats Barbara, and Damien grunts in the affirmative.

Ray scowls and drinks too much beer, ignoring Ben's disapproval, and Ben drives them home in the GTO, slowly, slowly, with Ray critiquing everything from where he's sprawled in the back seat -- "Fraser, you got a problem with speed? You got a problem with making a turn? Is your signal on? You got at least half a block!"

Ben slings Ray's arm over his shoulder and manhandles him into the apartment they share, and by the time they're through the doorway, Ray's gone from angry drunk to slip-sliding against Ben's skin, gnawing on Ben's throat, fingernails scratching, full-body-press against the wall, a little too rough and a little too desperate and Ben knows those feelings all too well, knows how they can eat you up if you don't let them out, knows -- knows enough to know that Ray wants to be... fucked.

Relationships are made of sacrifices; one has to learn to no longer be one person, but just as attentive and careful of someone else's needs.

It happens, though, not all of Ray's needs are sacrifices on Ben's part.

In the bedroom, Ben lays Ray on the bed and undresses both Ray and himself, a process that Ray is rather less than helpful with. Ray has already worked himself up, aroused himself, and he moves against Ben every time Ben touches him. His own hands are running down any part of Ben he can reach, and even his feet and strong ankles try to wrap themselves around Ben.

Ray is making small noises, and then he is talking, completely dirty and shameless things-- "God, I love your cock, Benton. I love it when you fuck me. You gonna fuck me now? Gonna make me scream?"

He doesn't ever say I love you at these times, but Ben hears it anyway.

I want Fraser to be a selkie! In fact, I have various notes in one of my notebooks about how Caroline was a selkie and Bob wasn't, and theirs was a love that transcended all that, blah blah blah. And so Fraser is half-selkie. Also, Victoria is a selkie, which is why she and Fraser have such a strong connection, and also one of the reasons she has little compunction killing humans. Both Rays are 100% human, of course. /late-night incoherence
