I don't remember how old I was the first time I read To Kill a Mockingbird, but I know that I must have been in grade school, and I was young enough that I didn't have any more idea than Scout what "rape" meant and had to look it up in the dictionary. I've read the book (the same now-quite-ratty paperback) at least a half-dozen times since the first time, and it's still one of my favorite books of all time. It was only last night, though, talking with [livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee that it occurred to me that Atticus Finch is probably the source and template for every character kink I have: the complex good character, with the deep down sense of decency that can't be eroded.

*sigh*

Hi, this makes SO MUCH SENSE of every character I have ever loved beyond reason.

I'm trying to think of a transition here to make this entry less jarring, but I really don't have one, so you're just going to have to accept that I'm going from talking about Atticus Finch to talking about incest porn within two paragraphs. I APOLOGIZE AND KNOW I WILL PAY FOR THIS IN HELL.

Anyway, you all know I have an incest kink, yeah? It is not a big secret around here. So I went into Supernatural kind of expecting to see it, considering what the fandom's preferences are, and -- nothing. I got no vibes at all. They're all brotherly and shit.

Except, you know, when I think about? I can't think of any brother/brother incest pairings that click for me. I mean, Don/Charlie on Numb3rs is the other popular one lately, and meh. Sister/sister will get to me occasionally, but not exceedingly often, but really? Hetcest. That's the one that does it for me EVERY SINGLE TIME, bar none. Brilliant hetcest is especially dear (Simon/River! Margot/Richie! Violet/Klaus! Etc!), but really, even when it's not, I'm still likely to be a goner.

I have no actually conclusion here; it's just randomly interesting to me!

(Hee, talking about incest is making me nostalgic for Arrested Development. SECOND BASE!)

Dude, I don't really see the Supernatural either - but to be honest, I am way more about the hetcest too. The only brother/brother or sister/sister ones that get to me is, like, twincest. Fred/George I sorta do. (Well, okay, I can also see Gob/Michael, but that's canon, SO.)

Heeeeeeee. I can see Gob/Michael, but even that is less interesting than the hetcest to me, at least.

Also, somehow the combination of you saying twincest and then mentioning Arrested Development, instead of taking me to the nice Lindsay/Michael place, took me to the weird and disgusting George/Lucille/Oscar place. Ew?

Yeah, Gob/Michael is definitely less interesting to me - also, it's kind of gross. Hee. (I sort of see Gob/Lindsay as potentially working really well, actually, though. They're both pathetic in the same kinds of ways, so that I could totally buy them having sex even when they still thought they were related.)

Man, George/Lucille/Oscar is so canon! BUT GROSS. I don't know what is wrong with you.

... there's Violet/Kaus fic? :: whimpers ::

...

Totally understand about Aticus. I have a few archatypes like that. For me, it's the older teacher / messed up student dynamic thing that gets me every time. I think I got it from the Herald Mage Triliogy.

*blink*

Now do you mean Tylendel/Vanyel, Vanyel/Stefan, or some less canonical pairing?

Well, though I *adore* both of those pairings, it was the hawkbrothers and vanyel that I always fantisized about.

I'm going to the special hell.

Heh. Y'know, I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about that, but I totally agree that it could have happened.

She just glosses over so much of their training, and I had bad bad visons of them healing him in other manners, as well...

::smacks self:: no, not going to think about it...

All I'm sayin' is, that scene in which Vanyel first meets Moondance? Definitely some flirting there.

There's this, Normal by sarafu (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/15/normal.html). I know there are more out there, but I can't remember where right now. (I do remember there being some pretty awful ones on adultfanfic.net. No, I don't know why I was looking there.)

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books too. The paperback copy I have is literally falling apart. Wah! I even have Billy reading To Kill a Mockingbird in my still not finished Oddessy story. He picks it up at a truck stop because Gregory Peck's picture is on the cover (just like my book *g*), and Peck was cool.

My revelation as to where my favorite character archetypes come from is a lot more embarrassing than yours; i'm fairly certain it can all be traced back to watching Cutthroat Island way too many times as a wee Zee and falling in ove with Geena Davis.

*raises hand wildly* I KNOW HOW TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THOSE TWO SUBJECTS! It goes like this:

Benton Fraser/Maggie Mackenzie.
