Today in my protohistoric cities class, the article we were discussing had a digression about the old Babylonian temple prostitution story, and it made me think of musesfool. Hi, Vic!

(It really isn't a bad class, but I wish I had realized before I signed up for it that it was more archaeological and less, I don't know, historical. Because archaeology is kind of boring when you get down to details. Ur and Uruk! The dawn of civilization! Sumer and cuneiform and ziggerats and religion and politics and so on! All much more interesting than the seventy page chapters about the difference between a chiefdom, a state, and a city-state!)

I have started season three of Alias and have also formed a new theory regarding the show. The theory is basically that the combination of Victor Garber and Lena Olin's hotness, talent and badassery is strong enough that seeing them onscreen is powerful enough to cause Contagious Short-Term Bisexuality in even the most relatively single-sex oriented. Lesbianism cannot resist Jack Bristow, nor can heterosexuality resist the siren call of Irinia Derevko!

Admittedly, my sample pool for this theory only consists of me and fox1013, but I think that is strong enough to let it apply to the vast majority of cool people.

(Probably not boys, though. I have a hard time imagining straight boys admitting that they'd do Victor Garber, even though WE ALL KNOW IT IS TRUE DON'T FRONT. Bah, straight boys.)

Regarding last night's Grey's Anatomy: Wow, Izzie just went totally BATSHIT FUCKING INSANE, huh? My lord. I am amused by the fact that she's gone psycho doesn't actually make me love her any less, because I think there are very few characters that would be true of! In her case, though, I just spent the entire time going "Oh. Oh, Izzie. Oh, sweetie, no no no no no. A WORLD OF NO."

I'm not entirely convinced they set up her psychoness quite enough, really. I was right there with them for her lying on the phone, but after that, it got a little quick for me. I would have liked it if her big freakout to Denny had ended up being a big cathartic meltdown with her giving up rather than him giving in. I think it would have made more character sense, as her discovering the brink she's gotten to and falling apart right there. But of course, then there wouldn't have been the drama for the finale.

I do agree with some other people that the writing's been a little shaky lately -- it seems like they're emphasizing the drama elements to the expense of the best things about the show, which are the snarky characters and big soapy goodness. But, you know, there's enough of the happy to keep me satisfied for now.

I absolutely adored Izzie totally losing her shit there, in a "Oh, Izzie, I love you and you are ALL KINDS OF INCREDIBLY FUCKED UP". That scene I was totally in with, but everything after that was a little too Bizarro World.

I'm with you. I actually liked the fact that she really let loose, because I don't think it's JUST about Denny; it's about all the patients she's been too close to and lost, and all the selfish shit she doesn't talk about, so yeah... I could see that it would just explode.

But yeah, I half expected her to collapse into his arms, and then just run out of steam, not... keep going, full-tilt. And she still would have been in plenty of trouble for faking his business to Burke, later on.
