Everybody else did this meme a week ago, but I am celebrating FINALLY HAVING AN INTERNET CONNECTION, and also waiting for my Deadwood episodes to finish downloading. SO. Here we go:

Comment with the name of a character in one of my fandoms, and I'll post you an instant mini-fanmix: 3-5 songs that remind me of that character.

I will try and upload all the songs, but possibly a few songs won't be able to.

Edited 7/6/06: music links in comments removed.

1. "Birdhouse in Your Soul" by They Might Be Giants (http://renigweder.com/other/02%20Birdhouse%20In%20Your%20Soul.m4a) (m4a). Because in my head, the first thing that comes around for geeks is always TMBG, and Jeremy Goodwin is my favorite geek.
2. "I Get a Kick Out of You" by Frank Sinatra. Any version of this song, actually (I'm loving the Dolly Parton cover right now). I think he appreciates the classics. I only have copies bought off of iTunes, unfortunately.
3. "Singular Girl" by Old 97's (http://renigweder.com/other/Singular%20Girl.mp3). Talking to you girl is like long division, yeah. Hi, let's look at his taste in women.
4. "(The Angel Wanna Wear) Red Shoes" by Elvis Costello (http://renigweder.com/other/07%20Red%20Shoes%20(The%20Angels%20Wanna%20Wear.mp3). I have explanation for this one at all, and I don't actually even know what the song is about, but, yes.

1. "Put Another Log on the Fire" by Tompall Glaser (http://renigweder.com/other/11%20Put%20Another%20Log%20on%20the%20Fire.mp3). Ahahahahahaha. This has been my McDreamy song forever.
2. "It's Common (But We Don't Talk About It)" by Bratmobile (http://renigweder.com/other/it's%20common%20(but...).mp3). Um, okay, I can't do my McDreamy mix without a little feminist rage towards him, okay?
3. "I Can't Touch You Anymore" by Magnetic Fields (http://renigweder.com/other/3-16%20I%20Can't%20Touch%20You%20Anymore.m4a) (m4a). Fuckin' tease with his madonna/whore complex. Boo.

Maybe you can answer a question I've been pondering lately. I do not know from Grey's Anatomy, but I read a lot of McDreamy hate on my friends list (much of it many, many paragraphs in length and very vehement and yet so incoherent with loathing that I still don't know who he is or what he does that makes everyone hate him so much), and I've begun to associate El Conquistadors Beatdown Stomp (http://www.sendspace.com/file/g4tirs) with him. (That's the song. I'd just give a link to the lyrics, but I can't find one, believe it or not.)

My query: is this a good McDreamy song association? Or should I really try to get my brain to stop linking songs I love to characters I don't know at all?

1. Ani Difranco, "Not a Pretty Girl" (http://renigweder.com/other/Not%20A%20Pretty%20Girl.mp3). I am not a maiden fair and I am not a kitten stuck up a tree somewhere.
2. David Bowie, "Suffragette City" (http://renigweder.com/other/10%20Suffragette%20City.m4a) (m4a). Wham bam thank you ma'am!
3. Magnetic Fields, "Yeah! Oh Yeah!" (http://renigweder.com/other/3-10%20Yeah!%20Oh,%20Yeah!.m4a) (m4a). How I loved to catch your gold and silver tears but now my dear...
4. Sarge, "These Boots Are Made For Walking". One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you. Bought from itunes, so I have no link, boo.

1. Ben Folds Five, "Kate" (http://renigweder.com/other/Kate.mp3). Everyday she wears the same thing /I think she smokes pot / She's everything I want / She's everything I'm not.
2. Harry Chapin, "30,000 Pounds of Bananas." I kind of think he would appreciate it, somehow. I don't have a non-protected copy of this song, though.
3. Say Hi to Your Mom, "Laundry" (http://renigweder.com/other/03%20Laundry.mp3). Oh, the cringing dorkiness.
4. Sufjan Stevens, "Casimir Pulaski Day". Something about the quietness and earnestness and sadness here, I guess. I only have a protected version of this one, too.
