I've spent the last day watching four of the Stargate SG-1 episodes you guy recommended to me, and ... it's like watching fanfiction a lot of the time, isn't it? Except it only feels half done, because at every step they tragically forgot to add in the porn.

However, these are the worst opening credits I have ever seen. What is the point of the exciting heroic action-y music if your entire credits are spent panning super super slowly over some carved rock? Um.

As I said, I've only watched four episodes so far, but two of them were "Window of Opportunity" and "But For the Grace of God" which -- even with the lack of porn -- leads me to the hypothesis that Jack and Sam are apparently fucking just about every possible state of the universe except the one the show usually exists in. Is this an inaccurate sample?

Apparently they were together in just about all the other universes shown. So no, I'd say it's not an inaccurate sample. *g* Man, if Jack/Sam was my OTP I would seriously want to kill the show writers.

There's more than one version of the opening credits - the ones on the first and second season are more action-y than the ones where they stole the carved rock from the movie.

Yeah, the episodes I watched the first season ones had unobjectionable opening credits, but the other ones were SO BAD.

The Sam/Jack thing is weird, because from my vague observation of fandom, I hadn't realized how canonically based the shippiness was in SG-1. The way people talk about slash vs het in the fandom, I thought it was more like the way SGA really is, where there's vague subtext and you can see whatever you want. (Though I'm sure the fact that SGA is like that is a reaction to whatever they did here first.)

Well, from what I can tell they never really hook up due to regulations, but there's definately feelings expressed.

I'm waiting for this supposed Daniel/Janet stuff to happen but it doesn't seem to have started yet. (I'm a handful of episodes into S4 - just watched "Divide & Conquer", which is where Jack and Sam finally admit there's more than friendship feelings.)

I don't remember much Daniel/Janet, but in 2010 they deliberately played it as a couple that had broken up an were still friends, which was awesome of them.

Believe me, the Jack/Sam shippers never forget the basis in canon, especially when dealing woth slashers. 'D

I used to hate the opening theme, and then my SG-1-obsessed friend made me watch the dvd commentary to the episode "prodigy," which has the producers making up lyrics to the theme music. now it's much more enjoyable.

Aw, see, I have nothing against the opening theme. It's energetic! It goes "here is a cheesy sf show, whee!"

Man. I can't believe the Sam/Jack people got you. (Jack loves Daniel. Fact.)

The aired eps have action and actor shots in the credits after S1. Only on the DVDs do you just see the rock.

Oh, honey. See, the thing is, those alternate universes where Sam and Jack get together? Everything goes to shit. This one? The one we're in? Where Daniel and Jack are quite obviously fucking just to one side of the camera? That's the one where we're not all dead yet.

All the same, I don't watch Stargate any more. But that's mostly because they did horrible things to the characters, and had this annoying, non-Prime-Directivey habit of just steamrolling over other civilizations that didn't, I dunno, want Starbucks on their planet or whatever.

I have the unfinished draft somewhere on my hdd of this story where they used the quantum mirror to send tiny probes through to all the other parallel unvierses to gather intelligence and maybe figure out what they could do to Save The Universe, and it turns out that the only factor they could find in the six parallel universes, out of like a couple of hundred, was that Daniel and Jack were together. Oh my god, that sounds like crack, but in my head it was all abut - this is late by season fiveish, and it was about Jack having to go further andwant to be alive rather than pure hero and about a bunch of other Real People in Desperate Circumstances and manly angst. But yes, their love saves the world.

Me <---- Lame.

(still - sg1! have you read the anna s stories yet? guh)

I'm not really invested in any of the characters, though, is the thing, so I'm not really interested in fic. Plus I haven't really seen Daniel/Jack yet, so. I'm fine with just brain candy tv once in a while.

have you seen the 'Spacemonkey' bit yet?

seriously, Daniel/Jack is quite clearly the best mates/person he has no problem expressing his feelings with, even if a tad grouchily, and as the show goes on, it's fairly clear that although Sam/Jack is just about hovering, Daniel's the one he'd give up everything for, not to mention the one he'd actually rather spend time *with*. As the show goes on, it gets so 'Old Married Couple' between them you just take it for granted.

Then comes S9, with Mitchell and Vala and you have the problem where they give off serious 'couple' vibes (right down to body language of automatically moving around each other in a doorway) due to acting together for ages in Farscape. There's a few icons floating about which go 'how're you? fine. Fine. Want to have another kid? No problem.'
