Darlings, can any of you help me out with what to do with the pound of chopped lamb shoulder sitting in my fridge? I'm craving meat, seriously.

What I do have in the house: one onion; carrots; potatoes; chicken stock; fresh and canned tomatoes; various spices; frozen spinach; flour/sugar/brown sugar/salt/honey; navy beans; handful of walnuts, almonds and lentils; apples; noodles; bread; vinegar; wine; cooking oil; butter; eggs; lemon juice.

What I don't have: garlic; any other onion type things; any other fruits or vegetables; any dairy product except butter; rice; fresh herbs; basically anything else you can think of.

I can't afford to go to the grocery store, and all my cookbooks are depressing me. If any of you know something tasty I can do, please share!

Shepherd's Pie, clearly!

Cut up the onion and carrots, add to cooked meat (tomatoes optional) with your choice of spices.

Boil the potatoes and mash them.

Put meat in baking pan.

Put mashed potato on top of meat mixture.

Cook in 350 degree oven until top of potatoes starts to brown.

Eat.

Hmm -- I've never made mashed potatoes without any milk or anything before; it won't be too bland? And how do I cook the meat? I need more details!

put butter and chives or simliar spice in the potatoes - they will be delish!

brown the meat in a pan with the onion and the butter (or oil if you use all the butter with the potatoes) spice as you wish.

you could also add a little red wine to the meat for extra flavor, if you so desire.

shepherd's pie is a great idea - or you might be able to make a soup/stew thingy. you've got meat, stock, stew-type veggies - add some spinach and maybe noodles or beans/lentils, and it could be lovely.

I was thinking stew, but I don't really have a good recipe to build off of -- plus I worry that it won't be as good without onions and garlic. Hmmm.

If your spices include cumin, coriander, cardomon, you could make a Moroccan lamb dish. Fry the lamb and onion in the spices, add chopped spinach, chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned), almonds. serve with lentils or bread or noodles.

Hee, I was just going to suggest this!

Also, [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o, stew is easy. You don't need a recipe! Saute the onion, brown the lamb, add cut-up carrots and potatoes and apple and lentils and stock, and let cook for a good long time. Add spinach not long before you eat it, and I'd put in curry-ish spices like cumin and coriander and black pepper. If you want to thicken it, melt butter, add some flour, pour in a bit of the liquid from the stew and mix it around, then pour it all back into the main stew pot.
