[livejournal.com profile] speshope and I saw The History Boys as the Sunday matinee at the town's arthouse theater. Wow, was that enjoyable. Seriously, I have a big giant crush on the entire movie. It's funny, and bittersweet, and just excellent. I know somebody on my friends list has been talking about this lately, but I don't remember who. Dear fandom, please all get on this RIGHT NOW. If you wanted to write fic, I would NOT MIND that either. (Man, it's too bad yuletide is a year away now. Heh.)

Also, oh my gosh, guys, those two scenes with Dakin and Irwin, first outside talking about how history is making moves, and then in the classroom at the end, where they make the date? God. I cannot remember the last time I watched scenes that managed to be that hot when, you know, nothing *happened*.

Also also, the ending sekritly makes me sad. I don't CARE about being realistic and honest! I want Posner to be gloriously happy and have a nice boyfriend to go home to! Sniff.

Dakin + Irwin scenes = so fucking hot adfljksldf. Cute English boys studying history and falling in love, with each other, in stripy ties. SO GREAT.

The only tiny problem I had with the movie was the vague implication that being gay means you'll end up closeted, bookish, and alone. Couldn't ONE of them have had a happy ending with a boyfriend and kisses? Posner, especially!

See, but I thought there was also the implication that EVERYBODY ends up alone and unhappy and stuck in drab meaningless lives, you know? Which ... uh, hi, I forgot you were literature there for a minute, movie/play. Thanks for reminding me.
