Being totally honest here: if I gave a list of the cities Boston, Chicago and Portland OR, would you -- without consulting a map -- be able to a) tell me which of them is closer to the North Pole than the Equator and b) tell me which one was southernmost?

I admit it, I wouldn't have been able to an hour ago. Geography is not especially intuitive sometimes.

Also, you guys, I don't know if I mention this often enough, but I am incredibly fucking lucky when it comes to my mother. I wish everybody could have someone as sweet, caring, funny and awesome as she is. <3<3<3

Apparently I am starting new medication soon. That's ... exciting. Hm.

I cannot stop listening to the 5 Mountain Goats songs I have on my iTunes. Or the song "Right Back Where We Started From" by Maxine Nightingale or "Natural's Not in It" by Gang of Four. Damn you, catchy soundtracks!

Also, every time I hear Regina Spektor's "Fidelity", which I love, part of me can't get past what an awesome example of glottal stops she gives.

Hmm. I know Portland is closer to the North Pole than the equator because I always get a kick driving past the sign for the 45th parallel while going up there. And then I feel ridiculously geeky.

My geography East of The Rockies is serious crap. My first instinct was that Boston was Southest (I defy you and your grammarically correct 'southernmost'!), but the more I think about it, the less sure I am. Damn. Must find map with latitude and longitude lines.

Oh! This reminds me! For my Ancient Science class, we have to determine the circumference of the Earth using the sun and some Trigonometry. The word Trigonometry gives me the wiggens, let alone the actual maths behind it. *shudder*

Yeah, Chicago is the furthest south, but it and Boston are both a couple degrees down from Portland. And Eugene, for that matter.

It totally is, dude! At school I am two hours south of Portland, and I am still quite a bit norther than Boston. It is very odd.

The 45th parallel is in mid-northern Oregon on the west coast. On the east coast, it's up in Ontario and Quebec and the very ends bits of Maine. Boston is way souther.

Hee. It's up in our top left-hand corner. One layer down from British Columbia -- counting down from the very tip-top, you have the Yukon, BC, Washington, and then Oregon. And then California for, like, ever, and then a little sliver of Baja California. And then Pacific Ocean all the way down to Antarcitca, because the question like this that tripped me up once was about the relative horizontal position of South America; it turns out that Chile is east of Florida. Which I never expected.
