Okay, usually I think this is kind of obnoxious, but fuck it, I'm really really proud of this story, so: Hey! In case you didn't see, I posted a Twitch City story last night! Here it is.

Onto the point of this post, which is: hi, let's play a game! 15 lyrics behind the cut tag; tell me what you know! As an added fun, let's add the title meme thing into it -- what story/stories would you write if the title was from these phrases? I'm fascinated to see.

1. Lord I have loved some ladies
And I have loved Jim Beam
And they both tried to kill me in 1973
("Family Tradition" by Hank Williams Jr)

2. I've seen the world with a five piece band
Looking at the back side of me
("Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" by Waylon Jennings)

3. Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
("Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler)

4. Maybe that’s OK for now
But someday you’ll be out of food and guns
("RE: Your Brains" by Jonathan Coulton)

5. And I say now you're top gun
I have lost and you have won
("When I Was a Boy" by Dar Williams)

6. It was then he lost his head
Not to mention an arm or two
("30,000 Pounds of Banana" by Harry Chapin")

7. So I'm writing you this letter
'cause I think I deserve better

8. Though I respect that a lot
I'd be fired if that were my job
("Birdhouse in Your Soul" by They Might Be Giants)

9. I'm sure that if I took even one sniff
It would bore me terrifically too
("I Get a Kick Out of You" by Cole Porter)

10. Locking eyes, holding hands
Twin high maintenance machines
("This Year" by the Mountain Goats)

11. You’re a map of a place maybe someday I’ll go

12. Your skin is something that I stir into my tea
("Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie" by Joanna Newsom"

13. You're lucky to be drinking here for free,
'cause I'm a sucker for your lucky, pretty eyes
("Polyester Bride" by Liz Phair)

14. So pull out your dead roots
Pull out your best suit
You know the one they're gonna bury you in

15. Be afraid of the old
They'll inherit your souls

#3 is "Turn Around" by Bonnie Tyler.

#9 is "I Get a Kick Out of You" by Cole Porter, from ... a show I can't remember.

I'm a little puzzled that I don't know any of the rest of them. :-)

Yes indeed! That song came on yesterday when Spes and I were driving around, and we both belted it at the top of our lungs.

It really is. 8)

Once, on a school trip long ago, I rode in a bus down a hill into Scranton, PA, and had to sing that song at everyone aboard. [/vaguely relevant personal anecdote]
