schmericaThe first thing Ray learns about Kowalski -- or maybe not the first thing, but it's way up there, it's one of the first things -- one of the first things he learns about Kowalski is this: the guy's a shitty liar.
It makes him wonder, frankly, how anybody ever thought Kowalski's be any good undercover, decided that hey, yeah, this is the guy we want keeping a secret, but Ray's alive, even after all that time, so he's not gonna complain on that score.
But lying? Not Kowalski's strong point. Not at all.
Ray knew from the very beginning that Kowalski is head over heels. He's crazy, big, gushy hearts and flowers death-do-us-part in love with the Mountie. And he thinks it's a secret. Kowalski knows how to play the tough guy; he's got the posture, he's got the talk, he goes through all the motions. But Ray's right there with him, and he can see the way the guy looks at Fraser across the room, the way his eyes go soft when they kiss, the way he's still wary with Ray sometimes.
Ray doesn't know what the big deal is, for that matter. Does he think Ray's gonna judge him? Call him a girl? Hit him where he's vulnerable? So he's crazy for Benny. Everyone's crazy for Benny. Ray invented that game. Hell, he'd be judging Kowalski if he wasn't -- that's just the kind of guy Fraser is.
He doesn't know if Kowalski thinks he's fooling Fraser, either, but Fraser sure knows, just like he knows how Ray's always loved him, as a buddy and now as more. That's the whole reason this arrangement works at all, isn't it? And Ray's gotten kind of fond of Kowalski, more and more as they go along, and it's kind of funny in a way, watching him be Mr. Tough Guy, all piss and vinegar and snappy comebacks, even when Ray is sucking him off -- and then, afterwards, watching him fall all the way apart, losing it totally as Fraser fucks him long and slow, letting it all go--
One of these days, Ray is pretty sure, Kowalski's gonna give up the pretense completely.
