So it's a slow boring Saturday afternoon and there's nothing better to do, so, okay: time for the lyrics game again!

These are all from a playlist where I have multiple versions of every song on here, so for once, only song title is required, and not the artist's name. If you get correct answers you will get prizes! Example of prizes: baby animals; baked goods; Canadian celebrities*.

*All prizes will come in the form of googled images.

1. Sometimes I take a great notion to jump in the river and drown.

2. I've had lots of luck, but it's all been bad

5. I'm free from the walls of that prison at last / But I'll never be free from my sins of the past

6. But please not one word of the man who had killed me / Don't mention his name and his name will pass on.

7. He left me no warning, no words of farewell

8. No, I never got over those blue eyes

Butting in: The dog is a Rhodesian ridgeback, which weighs a good 90 pounds, and yes, the other critter is a wee tiny baby fawn. So cute! :-)

Heh. Totally not the version I was listening to, but that's why I said artists don't count!

Not peeking at other answers, so many of these have probably already been guessed. And wow, but this was a musical flashback! Amazing how many of these I could probably still sing straight through by heart. :-)

1. Sometimes I take a great notion to jump in the river and drown.

Goodnight, Irene

2. I've had lots of luck, but it's all been bad

I feel like I should know this, but I have no clue.

3. The slayer who ran looked a lot like me

The Long Black Veil

4. There runs Mary, hair of gold and lips like cherries

The Green, Green Grass of Home

5. I'm free from the walls of that prison at last / But I'll never be free from my sins of the past

Poor Ellen Smith (how was she found, shot through the heart, lyin' dead on the ground... somebody stop me!)

6. But please not one word of the man who had killed me / Don't mention his name and his name will pass on.

I know I've heard this any number of times, but... damn. I got nothin'.

7. He left me no warning, no words of farewell

I know this, I know this... Joan Baez covered this... oh, argh!

8. No, I never got over those blue eyes

I Still Miss Someone

9. Hear that lonesome whippoorwill / He sounds too blue to fly

I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry

10. Like my brother before me, I took a rebel stand

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

That was fun! :-D

Oooh! That is very pretty! *beams*

I grew up listening to (and singing along with) the Kingston Trio and the Limelighters and the Chad Mitchell Trio and Joan Baez and PP&M and Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie and Johnny Cash and so very many more. Just a treat to get to remember them all again. :-)
