schmerica: (important brilliant & complicated)

SECRET SHAMEFUL YET MEANINGLESS ADMISSION: I can never keep straight the difference between ie and eg. Never!

COOKIES ARE AWESOME: I just made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies this afternoon, num num num. Very tasty! Though I think I might have been a little stingy with the spices. Next time, maybe some chopped walnuts, too.

WHOOOOOOOOOO: Doctor Who is so awesome I can't stand it anymore. (Yes, I finally got around to watching Utopia.) Livejournal, I have to say, I am SO PROUD OF YOU for not spoiling me for the fact that SAM TYLER IS THE (SECOND) LAST OF THE TIME LORDS, EEE. I would never have imagined you could do it, and yet!

Also, I have liked Martha a lot all along, but I think I have just now reached the point where my Martha affection has equaled and begun to surpass my Rose love. I am not sure how to feel about this!

Captain Jack is still awesome.

OTHER STUFF: Man, I am feeling in a very selfish mood re: fandom lately. I just want people to write me fic and entertain me, which -- LAME. The whole thing about fandom is that it manages to be give *and* take, not just one-sided and stuff. I need to find a better way to contribute, but it's hard when I'm so far from being in a writing place. (I don't know how to have people entertain me unless I bribe them with their own entertainment! That's just how it works!)

ALWAYS ON MY MIND: Fraser and Ray are preeeeeeeeetty.

Sorry to spam you, I VERY VERY MUCH do not want to be at work today, but... easy way to remember the i.e. vs. e.g. thing: e.g. means "for example," and if you say "eg," it kind of sounds like "eg-zample." Yes?

Never apologize for spamming me! I feel looooooonely when no one responds to my lj posts and then I feel sorry for myself about how nobody cares about me and I am so boring and blah blah blah. Comments = good!

*notes EG-zample* That totally sounds like a mnemonic Fraser would teach to someone, but i have no idea who, because neither of the Rays would care. Kidfic, perhaps.

I have just been very very strong at not clicking on ANY of the eight billion squeeful posts on my friends list! I said to myself, "Self," I said, "It's worth it to wait and not be spoiled, it really is." And it WAS.

Of course, I don't really have any way on catching up on those eight billion posts now, but whatever.

:D i mean, i kind of have, but i don't know the characters really, so when i watch the series i probably won't remember.

it's like how i watched the last two episodes of season one of grey's with my mom, but then later i had to ask fox who it was that died again? because i wanted to be prepared.

re: Martha. GIVE INNNNNN. Just look how pretty! Think of all the kinky "trapped at the end of time" three-ways she could be having with Ten and Jack!

Hi, I had given in to Martha from the beginning! I liked her all along! It's just it started out "I like this Martha chick!" and has grown larger and larger from there!

Mmmmm, end of time threesomes. Really, in this point in the series, I choose to believe Martha and Ten really have to be sleeping together off screen. He still doesn't get the fact that she's totally in love with him, of course, but they HAVE to be knocking boots! Come on, they were living together in 1969 as woman + kept man!

*giggles* I have come from a point where I don't know who Rose is, so I am sort of bewildered as to why the Martha train is not bigger and more squeeful.

In my head, they totally are. And I wish someone would fic it, because Martha is probably pretty wild in the sack. Even just to keep up appearances while she was his sugar mommy in 1969.

See, my Doctor Who timeline has gone: first episode of season 3, get curious, then watch all of seasons 1 + 2 in order really really quickly, then catch up with season 3. It has been a giant whirlwind of love!

I totally had the impression that the Martha train was THE place to be lately, though! I think my whole entire friends list who watches thinks she is teh hot and competent and deserves smooches.

I am glad you agree with my totally made up fanon! Martha and Ten are fucking off screen, PASS IT ON. \o/

E.g. means "here is an example", and i.e. means "I did not explain that enough here is some more explanation." You can i.e. before e.g., but probably not e.g. before i.e.

Except after C. In a neighborly way.

I think probably? I am really hoping that when you are in Portland I will be up for wandering around the city-ness, so I cross my fingers I will be not *too* crazy and we can go to cool places.

i will also hope that i am not *too* crazy, cos otherwise i might just take a nap at the youth hostel, and that is not fun for you. i also want to see [livejournal.com profile] fagtastic while i'm down there (up there, it'll be down when i'm there but it's up now unless we turned the world the other way). but, yes, i've been wanting to go to ground kontrol (http://www.groundkontrol.com) for a long time. also there are good places for cupcakes. :D

Well, it didn't actually make 60, it only made 36. I think my tablespoons were a little more heaping than they intended. But that is still many more cookies than one girl would need!

i.e. = il est = that is. If you're familiar with any Romance language, it should help you remember. 'Tis for clarification.

p.s. Still have your dogtags. 'Cause I fail. Should I send them to the address you gave me, or the address on your check?

I can't remember which address I gave you, but whichever one says Cornelius is the one that can reach me -- the Eugene one not so much.

I actually do have a background of high school French, so il est makes sense too! Man, my friends list wins at helping me out.

(Dear Maya, thank you again for accidentally pimping me into Doctor Who. Kisses, Pearl.)

Pssst! "i.e." actually stands for "id est," which is Latin for "that is." The rest of the above stands, but I wouldn't want you going around mistaken about the origins. /pendant ::squishes::

Oh, and "e.g." is for "exempli gratia," also Latin, which means "for the sake of example." /pendant, for reals this time

Also? You contribute very well to fandom by being ADORABLE.

I see other people have already offered ways to remember the difference between i.e. and e.g., but the thing that cemented it in my head? Ricky Gervais talks about his favorite leaflet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTeB4KeeaQg&eurl=). About 3:45 in, he relates the best use of e.g. perhaps ever. It really is rather unforgettable.
