They call the second bedroom Dief's room, and it is, of course, but in truth Benton sleeps there most nights as well, in the small single bed by the open window. There are multiple reasons for this -- Ray and Ray both prefer a warm bedroom, blankets piled high upon the bed, an atmosphere they consider "cozy" and Benton finds stifling, himself; they are both as affectionate in their sleep as in their waking lives, tossing and turning and snuggling, while Benton requires at least a modicum of personal space for a restful night; etc. Perhaps middle age is simply too old to retrain one's sleeping habits, after a lifetime of solitude. In any case, the three of them had all quickly noticed that this seemed the most beneficial solution at hand.

None of this is to say that Benton never sleeps with them; of course, there are times after their lovemaking sessions where they've all fallen asleep there, or times when he's dozed off in the middle of the day for a refreshing nap. And besides, for all that he doesn't sleep in it every night, it is nonetheless his bed, their bed.

Benton wakes up first, almost always. On the weekends, he's hours ahead of the others, still slounging asleep. He showers, takes a walk with Dief, buys bagels or muffins at the shop on the corner, brings in the newspaper and divides into three piles on the kitchen table. Sports and funnies for Ray; metro, arts and the crossword for Ray; the front section and anything else of interest for himself. He puts the coffee onto brew -- two different brands, in two different pots on opposite ends of the counter, one for Ray and one for Ray -- and then he goes into their bedroom.

Ray Vecchio sleeps elegantly; he wears pajamas, striped or solid, silky and smooth to the touch, and he lies on his side, facing the edge of the bed. Ray Kowalski sleeps sprawled out, taking up as much space as possible, facing whatever which way, in undershirt, sweats, whatever he fell asleep in. He abuses his pillows, rearranges his sheets and blankets, holds onto the wrought iron bedpost and slips his wrist inbetween the bars in his sleep. Sometimes he sidles up behind Ray in his sleep, and Benton can see them spooned together, and witness the affection between them in a way much quieter and more peaceful than he ever sees when they're awake.

Sometimes Benton will just look in on them, and decide to let them have their rest, and leave again. Other days, he'll bring in two cups of coffee, set one down on either end table, and then he will climb up onto their large, comfortable bed, and settle himself in the middle, between them. His place is always there for him. Those are his favorite mornings, waiting and watching as both men climb out of their lethargy, the aroma of strong brewed coffee, the weight of warm sleepy bodies, the delight of long, slow, friendly kisses as they greet the day.

Duh, that was obviously because you made RAY the center of the triad, and not Fraser. *nods seriously*

I thought it was because he was lying.

Ray could be the center of a happy triad, he could! But really I like it better when there is no center -- when it's all equal and even and they are ALL IN LOVE! <3 <3 <3 <3
