You guys, how have I not pimped the Picture is Worth a Thousand Words challenge yet? Fail on my part, definitely.

Here's how it works: you get assigned a photograph. You write a story inspired by that. The story is exactly 1000 words.

[livejournal.com profile] slodwick, one of the coolest people I know, has been running this for the past six years. Tons of interesting fic has come out of it, and everyone I know who's participated thought it was crazy fun. I'm not doing it myself, but only because I have pussied out of the last, like, five challenges I signed up, because I'm lame. But you should all do it!!!

(Slod says I'm responsible if bandom doesn't come and embrace the awesome. Either that, or it's Pete Wentz's fault. I don't want either of those things to happen!)

In non-pimping news: I'm thinking about the Black Parade booklet, and on the one hand, it is horribly tragic and depressing and kind of almost makes me cry -- BOOOOOOOOOOOOYS -- but on the other ... wow. In a lot of ways, it's kind of just Gerard's love song to his brother.

(I mean that in a totally pure and gen sense, by the way. I feel a need to clarify that, because I know the last week or so you might have gotten a different sense from my journal. Um, that's as much as I usually talk about incest in a year, for those of you who are new. I just get really excited about things -- witness how a few weeks ago I was all PETE/JOE!!!!!!! in every entry. This is just a slightly more embarrassing instance, because while I find it interesting, I don't actually want to become Crazy Waycest Girl.)

I have a [livejournal.com profile] speshope coming this afternoon. You do not. I CLEARLY WIN. \o/

Gerard and Mikey ship Simon/River, you know they do. And feel vaguely skeevy doing so, but seriously. SO CLEARLY CANON.

Ahahaha, whereas Ray is like "SIMON/KAYLEE YAY!" and they both just sort of look at him. And he's like "what?" and they just shake their heads.

Exactly!

And Bob is all "Mmmm, Gina Torres. Mmmm." and they just leave him alone, because at least he's not declaring another Mr. Bean Marathon. Thank God.

She does apparently go for the blond dudes.

She might make him shave, though. He spends a lot of time contemplating whether he would shave for Zoe.

Everyone else in the band has strong opinions on this. Gerard is all "hell, no! stay true to yourself, bob!" and Ray is like "Dude, what if you look really freaky without the beard? I cut my hair for a girl once and it was awful."

And on the other side, Mikey doesn't understand the concept of not automatically doing what your hot girlfriend wants without any questions. And Frank is like "Sex with Zoe, or facial hair? Yeah, I can see how that's a hard choice."

Brian would not have an opinion besides telling them they're losers for spending that much time contemplating whether a fictional sf character would be Bob's girlfriend. Gerard thinks Brian likes Inara. (She's Gerard's favorite, too. SPACE COURTESAN.)

Calling her a space hooker will get you a fifteen-minute rant. Every time. The guys can recite along with huge sections of it, but if Gerard sees you doing it he gets all huffy and hides in his bunk.

Ahahahaha OH GERARD. I love you best.

Eventually Mikey has to lure him out with promises that they can watch Peacekeeper Wars again so Gerard can tell them all about his fantasy about being Aeryn Sun for a day.

I didn't want to become That Crazy Dude Who Likes Waycest, but I fear that I am doomed. Sigh.

Really though, I'm just all about how much they love each other! Almost entirely in an unsexy way! They just- They are honestly the most codependent beings I have ever encountered, and somehow it's more sweet than sad and vaguely pathetic. I'm not sure how they manage that.

Their relationship is one of my very very very favorite things in this fandom. And the vast majority of the time, yes, I mean that completely nonsexually. Just -- they love each SO MUCH. SO MUCH.

Their relationship is one of my very very things ever, I think. And exactly! Their adoration of each other is just so overwhelming.

Although sometimes it's pleasant to think about it in a slightly more naked, less innocent context, mostly I just want to smush them together and watch them curl up with each other on the lounge couch and snuggle as they watch TV on DVD and snark back and forth with each other.

"way brothers gen" has been one of my unshared interests for ages. I just want, like, eighty million stories about them growing up together, and the early days of the band, and Mikey's breakdown, and everything.

I'm 100% positive that I couldn't write that without turning it into total embarrassing self-reflective meta bullshit. I identify so hard with the Way brothers that it's not even funny. :/

If these eighty million stories ever happened, though, I would totally read all of them and squeal and wave my hands and pimp them everywhere. But I totally can't write it.

I was just sitting here with the booklet in my hand thinking about the Ways. I think I was, like, gasping and sniffling when I read it the first time despite the occasional torrent of giggles at Gerard's prose. Because... yeah. Basically I want to think about Way brothers gen all the time. I find stories that ignore their brotherly awesomeness bad and wrong. I mean, I want slash, but I want slash that stars Gerard or Mikey to acknowledge their relationship. They're very close siblings! In the way you expect from twins, maybe. Although I think they've de-codependented themselves a little bit now that they're both married and have homes and lives. It occurs to me that Mikey's hiatus was probably the longest time they've ever spent apart, Y/N?

Oh, man, definitely. And I think the band probably made them even closer together, during all that touring and working together, when they were already really close their whole lives, so.

Basically I agree with everything you say here. Pete/Mikey stories where the Mikey+Gerard relationship is a major part of the story = my favorite things in the entire fandom, which is, uh, why your story and [livejournal.com profile] fluffontop's AU are both way at the top of my list of beloved stories.

In the booklet, Gerard says the time he went to Japan for a month was the longest he'd spent away from the band since they started. So yeah, I think Mikey's absence was, like, a HUGE thing. Frank sending him dozens of emails every day ♥ .
