I don't think I posted about this here yet, but somehow in the last few weeks, I think I've become kind of a Bert/Gerard shipper.

Their tragic doomed romance, you guys! And their faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaces.

I hate all of you Bertwives for doing this to me. I was fine before, which my vaguely positive indifference! This is much more painful.

(Please note this brings the number of people I ship with Gerard up to an even five. Look, it's not my fault that Lyn-Z, Brian, Ray and Mikey all complement him so perfectly, too, okay?)

I tinhat these two so hard. I think part of it it that I've still never heard a really good explanation for why they seem to hate each other so much now :( I know popular fanon is Gerard sobered up and Bert didn't and that was the end, but they were close for almost a year after Gerard got sober so that doesn't make sense. It makes the whole they actually were involved scenario so much easier to buy into.

The one really famous Bert/Gerard answering questions clip was one of the first things Zee showed me when I got into MCR, and I was like "aw, that's cute and gay." But it was seriously months later when I realized that the timeline meant that Gerard had already been sober for six months at that point, and was STILL acting like that with Bert. Ugh, the love.

UGH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH IT HURTS.

And it does hurt, because having run out of good Bert/Gerard I've been reading the sort of fics where Gerard is all 'shut your mouth bitch!' and then beats and rapes Bert.

Srsly, I have been angry with Gerard all day due to the amount of beating badfic!Gerard has been doing.

(Also, I would totally read Gerard/Lyn-z/Mikey/Brian/Ray/Bert. BLISS.)

I'm sorry, I just giggled a lot at the thought of Gerard trying to beat up anyone at all. Possibly he could win against a cat before he got all clawed up and ran away.

I have mostly only seen the bad Bert/Gerard would Bert is the villain! I don't know if that's better or worse.

My favorite thing about Bert/Gerard, other than "lies for the liars" and EVERYTHING EVER, is how almost every single photograph of them looks vaguely like a bad manip.

I just recently saw an extended version of the Q&A they do together, where I'm sorry but they might as well be 69ing as they talk, and it totally cemented my shippiness.

ILL-ADVISED YET AWESOME.

Okay, I've heard so much talk of this Q&A video, but I'm too afraid what might happen if I searched "bert/gerard" on YouTube to go looking for it myself. Do you have a link? :)

I used to be all EW BERT EWWWWWWWW, but then--and this is probably kind of asshole-ish, but I'm only being honest!--I downloaded Lies for the Liar and kind of fell in love with it. Which warmed me up just to the IDEA of Bert, and then somehow at work on Friday I ended up spending an hour thinking about his and Gerard's DOOMED LOVE, and how Bert was probably really SAD when they broke up.

My favorite thing about Bert/Gerard is that part of the Spin article post-Bert/Gerard where the interviewer devotes like two paragraphs to questioning the whereabouts of the second half of their "toxic duo." And then there's some Very Sincere quote from Gerard, saying that they just wanted different things out of life, and it all sounds like he's talking about an ex, because the interviewer devoted time to finding out why Bert wasn't present this round.

I still have an aversion to Bert that I know is probably irrational because he's not such a bad guy but I can't help it I don't like his face can't get over the part where every picture I've ever seen of them together makes me feel like I need to go wash my hair now. Either that or they're too much of a tragic doomed romance for me.

But I've read a few fics where they kind of sort of don't really make up but at least stop hating each other, and those make me happy. they're all emotional-growth-y.
