So I told

loveyouallwrong about how I wanted Pete/Mikey selkie fic, and she freaked out and called me a furry. If you ever wondered where Lea's line are: there you go. Pete/Hemmy mpreg where Hemmy has magically turned into a human? Okay. Selkie fic? SQUICK.

The more you know, right?

Uh, for those of you who don't share Lea's aversion, here's 750 words of commentfic on the subject, because I am dumb and wrote it out to describe to someone and thus lost all need to actually make myself write it. Lame, self. Very lame.

Pete lives on this little island off the coast somewhere and even though he has awesome friends and stuff, he still gets in ~~~moods, you know? And when he gets in his moods he goes off to the beach and sits and watches the waves.

And one time when he's there in the middle of the night, because he can't sleep, he's sitting there staring out to the sea and out of the corner of his eye there are these seals, just playing. And he can't stop looking at one of them.

And when he comes back the next day, he sees the seal again, but this time it comes out of the water, and from where he's sitting he can see it go behind a rock and just -- slip off its skin. And suddenly there's this beautiful boy there.

And he says "hey" much too loudly, and he's afraid he's going to scare him off, but the boy just looks at him calmly and says "hello."

And Pete says "I'm Pete." and the boy says, "I'm Mikey."

And they hang out all the rest of that day, and then again a few days later, and again, and it becomes an every day thing, the highlight of Pete's days and they fall in ~~~~love.

And they start having sex, too, and they cuddle afterwards but at some point Mikey always has to get up and leave and pick up his sealskin again and return to the sea. That's just the way things are.

And one night Pete is holding onto him so tightly and he says "I wish. I wish you could stay."

And he can feel Mikey tense up in his arms but he doesn't let go and after a minute Mikey says in a really soft voice, "Sometimes people get stuck. If something happened to my skin, I couldn't go back."

And even Pete can tell that Mikey's giving him permission. He thinks about burning it, first, but he can't do that to Mikey, not ever, so instead he just hides it.

Mikey never looks for it.

And they're really honestly happy together! Or, well, at least as happy as any of the regular couples on the island, you know? They're still kind of fucked-up, because Pete still has his moods and Mikey is really ~~~pining for the sea, but they really do love each other.

And that goes on for years. At some point they have a babby! Which, whatever, mpreg is weird yes, but this is an island where all sorts of weird things happen. They have a bb girl and Pete is ecstatic and Mikey smiles his Mikey-smile and it's all good. But sometimes Pete listens to Mikey's bedtime stories and lullabyes for the bb and they're all about the sea and swimming and how much her uncle gerard would love her.

And one day when the baby is old enough to walk and go through things and stuff, she opens a drawer that Mikey has always avoided, and ... There's his skin.

And he sets down the pan he was holding to make supper and picks up the baby and kisses her forehead and then he takes his skin and he's gone.

And Pete gets home and there's nothing.

He gets back in the habit of going to the sea at night and staring out onto the waves again. Sometimes he thinks he sees Mikey, but it never really is him, and they never come too close.

Except then one day they do. And one seal comes out onto the sand and Pete doesn't want to believe it's Mikey, it's just a seal, right, but he can't help it, and the seal comes right up to him and rubs against and makes a soft noise. He drops a pretty polished stone at Pete's feet and stands there gazing at him for a long time.

And then he goes back and joins the other two seals in the water again (Pete thinks one of them must be his brother he missed so much) and starts to swim away. But he stops and looks back one more time, and Pete waves him goodbye.

And Pete takes the stone and goes back to his house and his little half-selkie baby and he's still heartbroken, but it's like now he has a goodbye. He can start to move on. He wears the stone on a chain around his neck but someday he finds another person to love forever.

I'd like it better if it ended with Pete pining forever. Or Pete finds/weds someone else but is still secretly pining forever.
