schmerica: (smallville)

I remembered one more thing that surprised me about the Smallville premiere -- I really didn't expect them, I think, to show him making the conscious choice *over and over* to keep the red kryptonite. It's not already been a different situation from the two times before, since Clark did this to himself -- but it makes it so that it's not going to be as easy as getting the red kryptonite away from him; the problem isn't the rock, it's Clark and his issues. It won't make sense to have the rock come off and have him suddenly regret everything he's been doing for the past three months, like you could make a case for otherwise, because now he's faced that decision what seems to be dozens of times, and he's made the same choice each time.

Possibly this is obvious to everyone else, but again, it took me by surprise in the premiere -- especially since he seems like every time he puts it back on, it makes him that much more culpable.

I agree -- I think it's a much more interesting story that way, instead of just the "Oh, jeez!" Clark of before; it seems much deeper and meatier this way. I was still surprised that's where they went, though.
