The results of my poll about how well one must know canon to write fic are turning out quite interesting, especially if you read the comments that have been left. (I will answer them, eventually; I'm just feeling particularly brain dead today.)

Reading this week: first The Mummy Case, by Elizabeth Peters -- it's the third Amelia Peabody books, but it's only my second, because my library system does not appear to have The Curse of the Pharoahs. Still much much enjoyment here (although, really, Ramses does begin to grate after a while).

And then this morning I finished the last story in Ted Chiang's Stories of Your Life and Others, which, just, wow. Really, really excellent collection. I'm definitely going to need to reread eventually, too, I think.

Goal for the rest of the day: Write something. Anything, really.

Go Peabody! Choose Peabody!

(...how can you say he grates? Bless him! Um. I seem to be a Ramses Fan - 'Curse of the Pharaohs' was my first one, and he makes a fleeting appearance, aged 3, which I found unspeakably cute. Er. So - yes. Am fan.)

You must read more AND THEN THERE MUST BE FIC. Yes. Am steadily devouring them myself at present, and plotting fic. (There's slashy goodness ahead when Ramses is older, btw, if that helps?)

Ramses' baby lisping can get annoying in The Mummy Case, I admit. I think Pearl_O will like him better in The Deeds of the Disturber, the London-set one where he's a few years older and has lost the baby talk.

Hm, I hope so. It wasn't like it took away from my enjoyment of the book -- it was mostly just "yes, annoying child, go away."

Oh, I'm definitely going to read more! I have the next two out of the library already, in fact.

I think it might just be that I don't like children much? And I *was* a horrible precocious know-it-all child -- though of course not to any such extant -- and so it kind of is extra eepy?

Fic? Really? *ponders*
