Last night I had a dream that someone on my friends list (whom I've met, but don't know very well at all) had become, like, my academic advisor/mentor/cheerleader/helper-person, and the whole dream was about us working really hard to get me into grad school in one of the programs with joint History and Library Science MAs. My parents kept asking me where I knew the person from, too, and I had to do the same thing I do in real life -- "Um. Online." or "Um. I know them through So-and-So-Person-Who's-Also-a-Slasher-But-You-Recognize" or "Um. I met them at that convention I went to last year?"

All the programs I was applying to in the dream were ones I was looking at online last night, too, and drooling over (though I'm pretty much not qualified for them, given my academic record at this point). So it raises the question of whether I am doing *that* too much, or if I'm reading my friends list too much, or if my brain just likes to mess with my head and mix the two.

Really, I don't mind dreaming about slashers, and I don't mind dreaming about school, but the mixture weirds me out. Although this one was still much better then the ones where I realize my new professor is someone I know personally from fandom.

See, and I think I'd really like my new prof to be someone I know personally from fandom. Especially a writing prof. "I was thinking that for my next piece, I would write. Um. A story about River?" "Excellent. But I need you to stretch your writing muscles, so why not ship her with Mal this time?" "But my bunny's for SIMON!" Or some such.

*hopes we both magically get into colleges in Boston, or maybe somewhere else I don't know, and spend several nights a week hanging out dorkily*

But, dude. Boundaries! Equals sharing a hobby to person with authority over me ... whiplash and creepiness in Erica-brain.

That's my first choice grad school.

Don't hide! It seems like a really friendly place; I mean, I haven't started yet, and it was kind of my only option for library school because I wanted to stay in Boston, but I'm excited about it. What do you want to study?

I have dreams about having fancons at my house and my parents coming home and going "WTF is this?". (I did confess writing fanfic to my creative writing prof in a paper in Gay & Lesbian lit, and her response was, "Wow, I didn't even know this existed. Here's your A!".)

I don't think I've ever gotten into slash in a paper or anything. It did come up in my intro to women's studies class, though, during one of the discussions where one of my classmates was proclaiming about guys being attracted to two girls together, and girls not being attracted to two guys.

I know someone who taught college English and did in fact get a fellow slasher as a student. IIRC, they weren't in the same fandom at the time, but still. Weirdness and lines that shouldn't necessarily be crossed!

CREEPY. Eeep.

Actually, when I was at escapade, I had a conversation with one fan about the college I was attending at the time, and how they had almost taken a job there a few years back (not as a professor, but still in a working-with-students capacity). And then I was weirded out a little bit, and also felt really young again.
