I find that really hard to believe. I mean, hard enough that I've got all kinds of questions. What teens did they use? How sure are we that they were a representative sample? What was the exact question asked? What was the alternative -- yelling 'fire' in a crowded theater? Who was asking?

I mean, the teens I know are all about the freedoms -- at least their own, anyway. The flag burning, I can kind of see; the issue may be a little more complex than many teens understand. Still... aagh.

Honestly? From when I was in high school, I would agree with you on the freedom-thing for most of the honors kids I knew, but for general classes -- there definitely more of a "despotism/dictatorship" vibe going on. The same sort of kids who believe we should go and invade whatever country pisses us off at any time, and show them all who's boss.

I agree. I remember that from high school, too. That, and the kids who were raised by conservatives of the affluent economic persuasion, who were (it seemed) more all about whatever kept their taxes low than anything else.

The only thing that makes me feel anything other than horrified about this is remembering what *I* was like in high school, and how much I vacillated from one strong opinion to another, very different, but equally strong opinion for quite a while. I've changed and grown up a lot since then, and I hope these kids will too.
