schmerica: (books)

I'm stealing this meme from [livejournal.com profile] musesfool, who did it several days ago. This was actually pretty hard, really, because I was very strict with myself about going to school, and only brought a small, random assortment of all my books. Fortunately, I have about a thousand all-time favorites.

1. Choose five of your all time favorite books.
2. Take the first sentence of the first chapter and make a list in your journal.
3. Don't reveal the author or the title of the book.
4. Now everyone try and guess.

1. When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow. To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. ([livejournal.com profile] zeplum)

2. Mr. Dunworthy opened the door to the laboratory and his spectacles promptly steamed up. Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. ([livejournal.com profile] tzikeh)

3. This is my favorite book in all the world, though I have never read it. The Princess Bride by William Goldman. ([livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4)

4. Lyra and her daemon moved through the darkening hall, taking care to keep to one side, out of sight of the kitchen. The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. ([livejournal.com profile] nestra, [livejournal.com profile] liz_chan)

5. There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. ([livejournal.com profile] _aerye_)

4 is "Northern Lights", aka...um...that first book in Pullman's trilogy. And I know I've read 3, and it's killing me that I can't remember it.

4 is a Philip Pullman book.
5 sounds like Woolf, or Nesbit, and why do I always make these weird disconnected splits when I guess you memes?

Yes on 4, no on five.

I think it's because I'm just so mysterious.

2. The Subtle Knife? It's one of that trilogy by Philip Pullman, but I'm blanking on which.
