Things I Appreciate And/Or Miss About My Time in Smallville Fandom
1. My experience in this is apparently contrary to, like, most people you hear talk about it, but Smallville was an *awesome* place for me to be a newbie. It was welcoming and coddling -- shut up, I'm serious! There were lots of smart people and high quality stuff, too, and that first year of fandom was totally me sucking in new stuff all the time and learning how to constantly improve and refine my stuff and figure out fandom.
2. I enjoyed being in a closed canon like due South a lot -- you're sort of reshuffling the facts over and over, seeing what you can find that's still new, still worth saying -- but being in a brand new fandom with ever-growing-and-expanding canon was fascinating in its own way, watching everything change, reorganizing it to account for everything, making sense of everything anew as things change.
3. The badfic was exquisite. Seriously. *sighs nostalgically* dS, you have some sucky things I make everybody read, but non-alien-lifeform fandoms really are missing out on so very much.
4. All night chats with
dammitcarl and
valisme and
buggery. Jack is off in comics fandom now, and val and jess have drifted off into non-internet-y pastures. Sigh. Fannish drift is sad.
5. The art was amazing. So very many crazy talented artists. Cover art, wallpapers, all sorts of completely amazing stuff. If due South had more of this, I would die happy on a regular basis.

9/5/05 22:10 (UTC)Well, c'mon. As we all know, every kryptonian sperm is sacred and people who think otherwise *should* be slapped! Do you know how much Martha would've loved to be impregnated? LEX WAS SO UNGRATEFUL.

9/5/05 22:18 (UTC)In an amazing coincidence, the only thing that would've improved the performance of the first season of Smallville would've been if they were all naked and on rollerskates.

9/5/05 22:19 (UTC)I didn't mean by Clark. ^_^ But yeah, if I'd been Lex in that story, that's what I would have said. "You want someone to cherish the human/alien hybrid growing in their large intestine? DO IT YOURSELF."
