Um, how come nobody ever informed me before that Meg Cabot's blog is basically the best thing ever? You are all FIRED. I am slightly saddened by the fact that she does not have direct links to each entry, because the July 25, 2005 entry is basically the best thing I have ever read in my life. <3<3<3.

Anybody want to link me to more interesting blogs? I am mostly interesting in book-y things, or to a lesser extant, food.

My blog bookmarks right now consist of the following:

+ Bookslut
+ Neil Gaiman's Journal (although, actually, I need to catch up here, as I have not been reading for months)
+ The Daily Bread: a food blog
+ Go Fug Yourself
+ Smart Bitches, Trashy Books (also a new find which I am entertaining myself with)
+ Meg's Diary!
+ Making Light

Rec other interesting blogs, people? Livejournals I do not already know about are good, too, especially if book or food centric.

I just found Language Hat (link is on my main journal page), which is a blog by a guy who's into languages. When I say "into" I mean he speaks like 13. He's got a link to an Atlast of Languages that some guys at the University of Buffalo are putting together. Basically, he thinks language and linguistics are really, really cool.

dooce.com is neither book nor food centric, but I find it's often hilarious and touching.

+ Inspired by Go Fug Yourself, You Knit What?? (http://youknitwhat.blogspot.com/) (also available as a syndicated feed at [livejournal.com profile] youknitwhat.)

+ Pop Culture Junk Mail (http://pcjm.blogspot.com/), possibly the best blog ever for random interesting shit.

And, okay, EVERYTHING SHOULD BE SYNDICATED. That is my wish for the Internet Of The Future. I'm all, "You mean I actually have to *go* to these blogs? They won't just show up on my f'list? SO MUCH WORK."

Also, Jessica and Heather of Go Fug Yourself both have blogs -- I don't read Heather's, but Jessica's is here (http://ultratart.typepad.com/ultratart/) ([livejournal.com profile] _ultratart), and she's awesome.

OMG I KNOW. WHY MUST I GO TO MORE THAN ONE SITE? WHY HAS LJ NOT TAKEN OVER THE WORLD YET?

You know that Neil Gaiman has an LJ feed, right? And Bookslut too?

Any site you go to that has an RSS or XML button can have an LJ feed, all you have to do is set it up:
http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=137

If one already exists, it will give you the info. If not, you get to name the feed!

I find it much easier to go through the motions of setting up a feed rather than looking through the thousands of feed names looking for the one I want.

My favorite blog/LJ feed is Overheard In New York: [livejournal.com profile] overheardnyc. Not bookish or foodish, but damn funny.

Yep -- that's actually how I read Neil Gaiman and Bookslut normally; also Go Fug Yourself and the Daily Bread. I've been doing overheardnyc since last week, too, but it's started to make me a little depressed about people and the world in general.

We were hoping you wouldn't find out about it. Now we have to find something else cool to keep secret from you.

[livejournal.com profile] keithboykin has kickass political/cultural commentary.
[livejournal.com profile] lilyellowdiffer has been one of my favorite personal weirdo blogs for about 5 years now.
...second only, really, to the beautiful, witty and uber-talented Min Jung, who's just...gah.

I love The Baby Name Wizard blog (http://www.babynamewizard.com/blog/), which has all kinds of stuff on names: etymology, sociology, connections to literature and the arts.

Boing Boing (http://www.boingboing.net/2005/08/02/airport_security_wan.html) is sort of general-interest, but its contributors are writers, and there's a lot of stuff on copyright and technology as they relate to creativity.

Dumbfoundry (http://dumbfoundry.blogspot.com/2005/08/wikiproject-poetry-could-use-your.html) provides poetry news: readings, chapbooks, calls for submissions, and (best of all) which literary journals have new issues out.

Tanya Huff's journal ([livejournal.com profile] andpuff) is lovely. First, because she has been one of my absolute favourite authors since high school. Second, because her books always have queer-friendly plots. Third, because she is Canadian. And, fourth, because her lj is an lj, not a feed, and it reads something like all the other journals on my friendslist.

Which is to say, quirky, random, and generally pro-gay.

A sample to demonstrate what I mean -- the July 14th post:

I'm about 500 words from the end of the rough of SMOKE AND ASHES. There's nothing on television tonight. I'm caught up with the lj. I have no reason not to sit here and finish the damned thing.

Except that it's hot and I don't want to.

I have TOTALLY LJed about Meg Cabot's blog.

Because I LJed whining about people not telling me, and they were all "We have TOTALLY TALKED ABOUT IT and you CRUELLY IGNORED US because YOU SUCK!"

So I'm just paying that forward.
