Spes and I saw The Producers tonight.

THOUGHTS: I have seen the original movie many, many times and it was one of my favorites, but I'd never seen the musical, so naturally, part of me was comparing the two films in my mind the entire time (though that became less and less as the movie went on).

That said? I LOVED it. I can't remember the last time I was at a movie with that high of a laugh-per-person ratio -- I mean, it was 8 pm on a Sunday in the middle of Eugene; we didn't have very many people actually at the showing, but the audience response laughter was louder than lots of full showings for comedies. I was cracking up the entire time.

Also? You know what? That's one damn queer movie. I was ready to say "Damn queer, but STILL less so than the 1968 movie" for most of the picture, but, uh. Then the courtroom scene happened, and I was forced to revise that view a little. BIALYSTOCK AND BLOOM, yo.

Heeeee, yes. I think I requested it for yuletide for the original movie a couple times, but no luck. It'd be really hard to write, is the thing! Hard, but AWESOME.

It is black with white letters that say BIALYSTOCK AND BLOOM across the front; the Producers' logo is on the back. I lucked into a performance of the musical a few years ago, walked up for the soundtrack and walked away with the shirt. No regrets, actually.

In a rather ironic casting choice, that particular production starred Alan Ruck (Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) as Leo Bloom, ie. in Matthew Broderick's role. He really is a good actor, and he can sing. I'd had no idea.

By the way, your icon has to be one of my favorite moments from Clue(which I just watched yesterday).

Hey, I'm not the only person who saw this movie! And yes, it was *so* slashy. I'm not even sure what the *point* of that whole last scene was, really, other than slashiness.
