schmerica: (other: kink)
[personal profile] schmerica
For every kink, there is an anti-kink, right? There is one of yet another reason [livejournal.com profile] eliade's kink list is so fascinating. It's a toss: which is more fun, looking at your own kinks, or looking at everyone else's?

Like, I personally? Am not a big fan of watersports, or prostitution AUs, or food play. They're not squicks exactly, just not my thing. And obviously some of my things -- hi, incest! hi, genderfuck! -- are not other's things. Different strokes for different folks, right? We all have our own things that turn us on, whatever.

What's interesting, though, is that writing porn for Other People's Kinks Which You Do Not Share often seems to be some of the best writing you get. Fraser and Kowalski doing it in an alley is way, way, way down on my list of porn for them, but the story I wrote [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl that has that exact plot is one of my very favorites of my own.

So, then. What are some of your anti-kinks? And what do I have to dare you to make you try writing drabbles or ficlets about them? COME ON YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

My problem is that whenever I think of a kink that I don't particularly like my mind goes "Well, except if..." and then I have to go think of another one.

Except watersports and scat. Just not down with those. Oh. Blood play. Bodily fluids besides spit and come. Ew.

What, you don't want to read my phlegm porn? You're so repressed, Spes!

Crossdressing is an anti-kink of mine. I like my men manly. And yet, there are several crossdressing stories on my recs list, and I've written one (in HP) that is pretty popular.

(And yes, this is just an excuse to use my Twice The Woman icon YET AGAIN.)

I also would never have written noncon mpreg had it not been requested by one of my very closest fandom friends. And yet, the story I wrote for her just zoomed out of my fingers and into the computer - one of the fastest stories I wrote in terms of words per day. And again, pretty popular, and I think it's darn good.

I think viewing kink through someone else's eyes is...well, a kink of mine. As it were.

Oh, that's a fascinating way of looking at it! I can totally see that, actually. And of course, it works for characters, too (breathplay does nothing for *me*, but I can see it for Fraser, for example), but the writing-it-for-other-people part can just add to the community aspect of fandom in a really fun way, I think.

Ha! I learned long ago that any time I claimed an anti-kink someone would present it in an acceptable way so now I keep those antis to myself.

Of course, the anti-kink transformation doesn't stop the bad writing being bad writing. By the numbers BDSM is still boring as bat shit.

Hee! see, I don't think saying "this concept does nothing for me" necessarily implies "I don't think I could ever like this concept written in a fic" -- which I think is more of the implications you get from actual fierce squicks, right? I sort of assume that pretty much anything can be made palatable or even awesome with the right writing. (Sort of the opposite of Te's bulletproof kink from a while back, I suppose.)

Genderfuck. Watersports. Scat. Non-con. Blood. SM.

How to dare me? Um. I'm easy. Really easy. Looking at me with pleading eyes is generally enough to make me do things. ;)

I've never thought of myself as that repressed. Like Ray said, I'll try anything once. Writing's a whole 'nother thing. If my mind *can't go there*, I simply can't write it, not without feeling like a con job and that's so not a good feeling.

I keep running across the title of your post, and wondering "why doesn't scat count?" You totally hurt scat's feelings!

Armpit nuzzling, anything involving armpits, in fact. I've seen it quite a few times and I just don't understand the appeal. It's an armpit. I'm also not into crossdressing, especially because I don't think Fraser or Ray would make attractive women AT ALL. Sorry.

Hee. I guess maybe it's a "warm, hairy, secluded, sensitive place" thing? Because everywhere else on the body that fits that description does tend to work for sexiness.

Incest, bloodplay, breathplay (which, btw, you're absolutely right -- I was assigned that last in the Kink and Cliche challenge and ended up turning it on its ear to produce one of my favorites of all my stories, and certainly the best smut, I think, I've ever written, and it was a BtVS/SW crossover to boot, so hey), bad boys/girls, body modification, hurt/comfort, prison, and finally, weirdly -- spanking, which doesn't do it for me at all. Also, family play/daddy kink.

Yes, I am way too picky about my pr0n. *laugh* This list pretty much eliminates something like 60% of fic out there, and of the remaining 40%, 38% is either not about characters/fandoms/pairings I like or it's just plain BAD.

And now I'm totally going to have to take up your challenge. Even now I'm having plotbunnies. Bugger.

well, off the top of my head I'd say genderfuck and foodplay because they ust dont do anything for me. and Im not a HUGE fan of realy heavy bdsm or breathplay or whatever, but I dont mind it a little.

and, well, I have READ some genderfuck that wasnt totally terrible. and I mean, Im sure *someone* could write me a foodplay story that I wouldnt squick. so. uhm. I have no idea.

It's really true. I wonder if it's because one has to work harder to get the stuff to line up and *do* something, rather than hoping one's Well-Known Kinkiness will fill in the gaps or something.

hi, genderfuck!
I've long wondered what's *meant* by 'genderfuck' - is it hardcore crossdressing or, like, Frannie woke up with a dick? Inquiring minds!

What are some of your anti-kinks?
Hmmm. Straight-on D/s, non-vampiric bloodplay, and felching. The last is totally BLG's fault, too.

I think that does make sense! I mean, there is a temptation to skip over things when you're writing something that you feel deep down is hot -- even if it's not even conscious on your part.

I've long wondered what's *meant* by 'genderfuck' - is it hardcore crossdressing or, like, Frannie woke up with a dick? Inquiring minds!

Honestly, I think it means different things to different people! I tend to use it as personal shorthand for "anytime your het couple is having queer sex or your slash couple is having het-ish sex" (http://pearl-o.livejournal.com/508561.html).

...but on purpose, yes? 'cause otherwise, that includes the vast majority of bad slash. *snob*

I try to write my squicks (or milder distastes)... when I can find an audience to luvve them. Writing to the audience motivates me to put up with the struggle to get inside a POV not mine, and I like the results of being made to stretch that way.
Now if I could just drag my ass into writing FANfic, instead of original full of obvious self-insertion...
