She's a Man: Cute and quite a lot of fun, but really astonishingly degayed for something based on Twelfth Night. I would not have guessed it was possible to that extent! Also, before this movie I was under the impression that I disliked Amanda Bynes, but she was actually quite appealling.

General question: why is it that girls in drag in movies and TV, often in serious and life-altering situations, always choose to keep their hair long and wear a wig over it? I realize the dramatic wig removal and display of feminine locks is very impressive looking, but it still seems stupid. It makes more sense here than in the television episode I saw it in a few weeks ago, though, where it was a situation where the chick was going to be killed or lose her job if they found out she wasn't a boy.

Heh. You haven't seen the (foreign art-house) movie Osama, then. There's a moving scene where the grandmother cuts the girl's hair so she can pass as a boy (in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan) and therefore get a job and save the family from starvation.

It's a good but quite serious and somewhat strange movie.

Hee, yeah, my "always" there is definitely hyperbolic, based on, uh, very few (but frustrating!) data points.
