let my love open the door
20/6/06 16:15The more I think about Jersey Girl, the more one thing in particular about it starts to seriously bug me. Because, hi, huge pet peeve.
Listen, writers and directors and people of the world: IF YOU START OUT YOUR STORY WITH A FRAMING DEVICE, YOU HAVE TO END IT WITH ONE TOO. That is actually what makes it a frame. You don't start a framed narrative, then get distracted by the movie or book or whatever and just end up like you never framed it to begin with, because that will drive your audience FREAKING NUTS.
(Yes, Shakespeare did it in Taming of the Shrew. Shakespeare did a lot of things you can't pull off.)
Also, I now have "Let My Love Open the Door" stuck in my head. Luckily, I kind of like that song.
My sister was watching Days of Our Lives this afternoon, and I ended up sitting in the room watching with her. Apparently there is a plot going on right now where an uncle is in love with his niece and they are contemplating a romantic relationship. Apparently, this is not totally creepy to anyone on the show because the uncle was adopted. Um, yes.

21/6/06 02:11 (UTC)And it's the LAW on soaps that they must SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome) the kid at one point or another. I remember when Eric and Sammi Brady were babies. And now a former Eric is DEAN! OH it all comes in circles!!!

21/6/06 02:43 (UTC)And yeah, Bo and Hope have Sean, who is all grown up and trying to get artificially inseminated with his girlfriend, I think. Zack was born...a few years ago. Hope had a baby and Lexie was adopting a baby, and Stefano switched the babies. So the real parents came back and took the kid Hope was raising, and she took her biological kid back from Lexie. (Or so I gather. I have *not* watched through all these story lines. I feel the sudden need to try to repair my dignity, or something. *g*)
SORAS confuses me! 'Cause yeah, I remember when Belle Brady was *conceived*, and now she's all grown up and married. And her parents, through some miracle of god or plastic surgury, don't seem to have aged a day-- of course, maybe Deirdre Hall just has a pact with the devil.

21/6/06 03:01 (UTC)What it really all comes down to is: Alice Horton is the OLDEST WOMAN EVER TO LIVE.

21/6/06 04:52 (UTC)Re: Alice Horton - *nods* And: She's still ALIVE????
(I cried when Dr. Horton died.)

21/6/06 04:57 (UTC)And yup again, Alice is still alive. I don't think she's on all the time anymore -- she was on today for the wedding, and it looked like Maggie was seriously having to assist the actress in walking. Crazy old, but still as gentle and smiling as ever.
(Dude, me too.)

21/6/06 05:06 (UTC)DAMMIT! WHY AM I CURIOUS???
And MAGGIE!!!! I remember when they SORAS'd MELISSA, that's how long ago I watched. They stuck her upstairs for about two years, and Maggie would yell up for her to turn the music down, and then she came downstairs one day all grown up. LOL

21/6/06 05:13 (UTC)And...yes? There was this thing where Marlena serial killed a bunch of people, but not *really* because they all wound up on this island that was built to look just like Salem. And eventually they all got out (though Marlena and Roman wound up taken prisoner again, and Roman knocked her up), but later Jack...got sick or something? And then apparently died? I'm very fuzzy on all of this particular plotline. But yeah, everyone thinks he's dead when really he was in some hospital, where he somehow ran into amnesiac Steve. Also not clear on *those* details, though it was just last week. *g* Jack is, I think, still technically dying, and Jennifer is marrying Frankie. I *think* what will happen is that Jack will survive, but Jennifer will go off with Frankie, since the actress is apparently leaving the show.
Ahahahah! I only vaguely remember Melissa.

21/6/06 05:42 (UTC)And I remember when Steve "died", they did a total huge funeral and flashbacks and crap but then at the VERY end you saw someone switching the coffin and so you KNEW that Steve wasn't really dead. HAHAHAA!! I watched General Hospital in the 90's and they had the actors who played Steve and Kayla on there and that was funny because they didn't have them meet for ages either.
Are they the same actors? I remember when Marlena was "possessed" but that was a couple of years after I had stopped watching, so I didn't know the whole story. By then the whole Roman, no John, no Roman, no HE'S Roman, no HE was Roman FIRST thing got annoying and that might have been why I stopped watching.
OH SOAPS! How I don't miss you!! LOL

21/6/06 05:52 (UTC)That's hilariously awesome, re: Steve and Kayla on GH. And yes, the exact same actors. It's really eerie to be seeing all these original actors coming back.
I agree on the John and Roman thing. I forgave them because they got rid of Roman for a long time (but then there was drama with John and Kristen, and I swear sometimes that show should be called Days of Worshipping Marlena Evans), and then last year they just had to shove Marlena and Roman together again. Seriously, let it go already!
Soaps are bizarre like that -- I never miss them when I'm not watching! But if I let myself watch just *once* after ages, I have to take an hour or so to go catch up on everything I've missed. Brain eaters!

21/6/06 04:50 (UTC)So wait, Belle and Brady are now the same age as Sean Douglas? And SAMMI has a grown-up kid? IMPOSSIBLE I SAY! In real time life she's like 23.

21/6/06 05:06 (UTC)Sammi's kid still isn't grown-up. He's...fourteen, fifteen now? And probably completely insane from Sammi and Lucas having years of "we hate each other! We're getting married! We hate each other again!" bullshit.
And *yes*, Isabella. I loved her so much, and I'm afraid she's the one character whose death I'm sure is forever. Didn't she have to die so she could help John save Marlena from being possessed by Satan or something? They *called* it cancer, but hey. Plot device. I also miss Shane and Kimberly and Eve. They should all definitely come back, and then I'd probably watch again full time instead of just reading this stuff on the internet. *g*
