Okay, question of the day! This comes up occasionally during RPF discussions, and it's sort of interesting on its own, too -- the question of the connection or disconnection between writing pornography about fictional characters and the actual physical bodies of the actors who portray them.

Which is to say: when I write a fic about Ray Kowalski giving Benton Fraser a long, slow, loving blowjob, obviously to some degree I'm relying to the visual images of Callum Keith Rennie's mouth and hands and Paul Gross's body. Except at the same time -- Paul Gross's body isn't synonymous with Benton Fraser's body. When I'm writing porn about Fraser, the way his body looks, feels and responds isn't the way Paul Gross would; it's the character I'm writing, who is idealized from the character on screen, who is *not* Paul Gross, but just played by him.

Or -- well, Ray Kowalski, Billy Talent and Duck MacDonald all have a tattoo of the Champion logo on their right biceps. But that doesn't mean that's the same tattoo, because it has a different meaning and history for each of them, right?

All of which boils down to, I guess, the fact that I still think Fraser has a bigger cock than PG does.

The tattoo issue is interesting, because when I write crossovers, how does that translate? Does Fraser note that Duck has the exact same tattoo as Ray? Of course not - that would be absurd. So I have to elide the issue somehow. Actually, actor crossovers fascinate me because they sort of skate the RPF line without really being RPF.

And as was discussed about half a year ago, the interesting thing is that Paul is probably circumsised and Fraser is probably not - and Callum is probably not, and Ray almost certainly is.

One of the big things about this when I was in Smallville was the issue of Lex's body. Because, I mean, Michael Rosenbaum obviously does have body hair, but you can tell in places that they're reducing it (making him wax his chest totally, for example), but in other places you can also, um, see the stubble on his head. (And of course, MR's natural hair color is a totally different one from Lex's, which is a whole nother thiing.) So you can never get a complete answer for something like "does Lex have pubic hair?" not only because you're not going to see that on the show, but the character and the actor are especially different there.

I certainly think Fraser should be in better shape than Paul, for example. Because he has a different background and set of abilities. But I wouldn't want the difference to be striking - he doesn't have to be what Paul is, but I would think he should be what Paul suggests. If you know what I mean.

See, I've always thought it's not simply a matter of size, because I can imagine them being equal. I think it all comes down to tongues, really. Fraser almost certainly gives better head. And, not being a smoker, is a yummier kisser.
