Thing Two: I commented on katallison's interesting last post here, with some of the other stuff I've been thinking about F/K/V.

A: (Also, one of the things I find most interesting about the Ray/Fraser/Ray stuff is that three people makes, really, this huge exponentially increasing number of possible emotional relationships among them. I find the sort of equal triad stuff that people are writing charming, but I can also totally see and love the idea of a more tense sort of vee shape, with Fraser at the apex, connecting both Rays. Whereas some of the other stories might, say, have two in a relationship and one just joining in, or maybe a vee with RayK at the apex, or other things that don't really hit my spots for the pairing.)

and then later B: Oh, YES. Really, it is just that hotel room scene in CotW -- which is highly satisfying emotional crack on its own -- taken to the extreme version, right? All of the angst and jealousy and love is already there; it's sort of just making it super-textual.

And really -- even keeping in mind Kat's making the angst look so very very pretty -- I think the scene in CotW is the really the center of the fascination for me. When I say emotional crack, I MEAN it; that scene is all about these emotional ramifications and friendship and desire and the difficulties of three in the space for two. Which continues all the way through the episode, in some ways, (though in others Ray Vecchio is quickly pushed out of the way), but I think is purest in that scene.

Anyway. Look how my Mountie-And-His-Boyfriends memory category is growing!

I think the reason I want it all to be an equal triad is because my noncon squick is so hair-triggered that if it's a vee shape, I worry that one or other of them is going along with it against their own better judgement. I need them to all want to be there, to all want each other or it creeps me out a bit. I don't want them to settle for less. You know?

Not to toot my own horn, or anything, but, um. If you want more fodder for the category, I have this (http://community.livejournal.com/stop_drop_porn/9184.html) to offer.

As far as the triangle goes—I mean, I can read the non-even stuff, and I can like it when it's well written, but I love these characters so much, and I want them to be happy together. It doesn't have to be hearts-and-roses all the time, because life and love are hard work both, but I want them at least all headed in the right direction, ultimately. Or, well: maybe it's a very wrong direction, but they're all headed there together.

I don't think a vee shape necessarily = not all happy woot -- there are lots of people in relationships like that where it works perfectly well -- but it's certainly really complicated and different for these characters. Which, I like complications myself! But, yes.

Throwing in my 2 cents.

The equal triad stuff is really quite charming, but I have to admit that it just wouldn't work in my world. Of course, I'm completely incapable of writing anything remotely fluffy. My vision of a possible threesome would be a "sort of vee shape, with Fraser at the apex, connecting both Rays". The Rays would be jealous, RayK would be a bit insecure and Fraser would be trying to make everything right and make everyone happy. It's not going to be happy and there's going to be a lot of tension. And sex, let's not forget about the sex. Because there'd be jealous!sex and making-it-up-to-Ray-sex and frustrated!sex and trying-to-be-what-Fraser-wants-sex and a lot of masturbation to whatever happy vision they're just entertaining.

Now I kind of want to write it, but I still kind of owe you a genderfuck piece (which I've started, but not finished yet).

Like I said, I can see it in seriously any number of different ways for the three of them, really. It's just some are more interesting for me, personally, than others.
