I went to bed at 9.30, and then woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. >:(
In the umpteenth part in the series "Pearl-o Recs Everything Impertinence Ever Writes", I feel I should mention here how much I loved Collective. This should surprise no one, really: it's Imp, and it's MCR GSF (Gerard's birthday gangbang! ♥) ending in cuddles for everyone; I've been shipping Ray/Gerard more and more with every passing day, and the way she has them here makes me go starry eyed; and there's really meaty, interesting stuff with the Mikey/Gerard, too.
The way she handles the Waycest may actually be my favorite part here. I'll read just about anything for this pairing, as is probably fairly obvious, but I actually have pretty strong preferences in certain ways. The thing about the two of them is it's one of the few pairings I love where the fucking is actually the least interesting part. (I know for some of you this is true for all your pairings, but I am not usually that girl!) There are lots of stories where I want to roll around in the set-up, and the porn, while hot, is much less satisfying.
It's not even about the UST, though, exactly. The best part of Mikey/Gerard for me is that sense of this grey area, this in between space between what brothers should be and what they are and what they shouldn't/can't be. When it's done well it's a lot more complex than "hey, I want to do my brother", I think; the sexual component is just one more element of an already pretty epic connection between them. (And actually, I think that's true whether or not either of them is even aware of the sexual link between them.)
So, yeah. If you look at my biggest Waycest buttons, they pretty much all fall into that deep muddy part, where they still have these boundaries they won't cross, whatever those might be. Watching each other fuck someone else, or fucking the same person, without fucking each other; hearing each other jerk off, or having wet dreams; watching porn, jerkung off together, telling each other everything about their sex lives; being mistaken as a couple by others; cuddling and kissing and sleeping in the same bed and doing everything but doing it and never even acknowledging it might be weird; doing everything but doing it and knowing it's weird, but doing it anyway, because it's still okay, just as long as they have that line.
So, yeah, the way they're portrayed in Imp's GSF makes me really happy, and it's a really good example of how setting up those lines to begin with can make the eventual resolution that much hotter and more meaningful. Yum.
Anyway! On the topic of things that won't add to my growing reputation as "That Chick What Likes Incest," I keep going back and looking at the pictures from my Bert/Gerard entry, and you guys, this picture never gets any less funny to me. I can't help making up ridiculous scenarios in my mind every time. Just look at Gee! Between the coat, the glasses, the expression and hand motions, that is possibly the most bitchy demanding diva I have ever seen him. He is totally chewing somebody out out-of-frame. Meanwhile, his boyfriend is all "Calm down, baby" and worried and pretty confused. It's not fun when Gerard isn't happy. And Jepha is just thinking "Christ, not again."
(Please note I don't actually think Gerard is a crazy diva bitch. Actually, the one thing about Gerard/Bert that gets me really upset is that I can't stop reading people's opinions on how the break-up is either totally Bert's fault because he's a drunken addict that Gerard was too good for, or totally Gerard's fault because he was an evil asshole who broke Bert's heart. They both make me want to hit things. :( They're both fucked-up people, they both obviously loved each other, they both kind of acted like assholes afterward, etc. Bad guy/victim castings make me sad.)
I need a Bert/Gerard icon. Hm.

15/4/08 20:28 (UTC)Frank: Christ! I wouldn't mind public groping or makeouts. But one more, one more sappy little giggle out of you, Toro, and I will KILL YOU BOTH. There's more to lesbianism then sitting on each other's laps and gazing lovingly!

15/4/08 21:36 (UTC)I bet he threatens to stop playing if they have one more tender hair stroking moment on stage.
And every time he walks in on them, Gerard is using Ray's breasts as pillows, instead of having raucous sex.

15/4/08 12:03 (UTC)I'm a big fan of long, plotty first-times and UST-filled fics, because to me the most interesting thing to read about is people's developing relationships and the tension between them as those relationships change. This pretty much triples when incest is involved.
Waycest is different from my past incest ships (Sam/Dean, River/Simon, etc) because there's no huge, one-in-a-million tragic set of circumstances keeping them unusually close; you could make an argument for mental illness tying into their relationship, but it's still not nearly the degree of emotional - and to an extent, physical - trauma the other two ships contain. So in some ways, I think the kind of relationship you were talking about makes more sense, because while as rock star brothers they're unusual, they're not so unusual that they can be viewed in a context that disregards societal mores. Out-and-out fucking is a definite line, as is acknowledging the relationship verbally.
Also, just on a personal preference level, yeah, that kind of thing is really hot. One of my favorite things (caveat: I know I've written it, but I can't remember if I've read it. If I have, it was probably by

15/4/08 21:22 (UTC)I am fine with this as long as Lea okays it first!
River/Simon was my first incest ship and I think it's always going to my ultimate one. One of the things that is so intensely perfect about them is definitely that feeling that it is just the two of them against the entire universe, you know? And Mikey and Gerard have an unusually tight bond and there's definitely an undercurrent of us vs them when they talk about their youth, but aside from really extreme AUs, they are still very much set in the world, with society and other people and all that other stuff keeping them from becoming each other's one and only. I think this is actually the reason it took me a while to get into Waycest when I first got into the fandom -- what I want from their relationship is definitely different from what I want out of other incest ships.

15/4/08 13:44 (UTC)I go back and forth between imagining that Gerard's really upset about something valid (like rampant homophobia when he was holding hands with his boyfriend) or that he's upset about... I dunno... the wrong type of sparkling water in his dressing room. :-D

15/4/08 14:58 (UTC)I seriously cannot decide which of those two scenarios thrills me more. Oh, man.

15/4/08 23:38 (UTC)IDK, I find Gerard's comic book geekiness continually hilarious and endearing.

15/4/08 13:50 (UTC)Yes! That's my favorite part of Gerard/Mikey. That they are so unbelievably close, but first and foremost there's those little gestures of affection and the unspoken "I'd do anything for you" that makes everything up. That's why I love UST and pseudosexual gestures like these (http://lordessrenegade.livejournal.com/230116.html?thread=2744804#t2744804) Well, I read on in your post and I vaguely disagree with the boundaries thing. It's definitely personal for each of us, which is why I totally respect you and what you like about Waycest, but my take on it is that they've gotten so unbelievably close and important to each other that, after some tension, it becomes a natural and comfortable next step. I read a Waycest fic the other day where they used Frank as a sort of go-between and I just felt really squicked by that. I mean, it was a good fic but I personally find those kinds of boudaries (no orgasms in each others' presence, no getting each other off in any way) a little convoluted and it makes me generally uncomfortable.
Impertinence DOES write seriously awesome fic, though.

15/4/08 21:27 (UTC)Seriously, Jepha totally wants to be anywhere else but there, right? Nobody wants to be around when Bert and Gerard are having a spat.
