HI. I am in the midst of a bizarre mood swing! Everything sucks! Nobody loves me! Blah blah blah blah ANGST.

Obviously the solution to this would be to spend the day curled up in my bed until I can act like a human being again, but unfortunately, today is the day my mom is taking me down to Eugene to look at rentals. This somehow involves me tagging along at breakfast with her friends as well, which should be nicely awkward.

OPTION NUMBER TWO: Surround myself with fic of the pairing I have only recently discovered my fascination -- nay, love -- for.

This plan also hit a snag, in that the delicious offerings for pete/joe are really rather disappointingly meager. That's just unfair, you guys. What's the point of getting excited about another pairing if it's just going to be another rare one?

Siiiiiiiiiiigh. Today fails, you guys. Can we start over? Alternatively, leave awesome things to come back to when I come crawling home this evening?
schmerica: (girl named chuck)
I went to change my name to "Mikeyway Doesn't Understand the Point of This Athleticness" in my profile, but apparently livejournal doesn't approve of names that long. Whatever, lj! I had to go with my second choice instead. I am now "mikeyway: never been vaginally penetrated!"

Awesome, I know.

My sister is playing Christmas music; the song that's on right now is Frank Sinatra singing "Mistletoe and Holly". Which is a fine song, but wow, it's connected in my memory so incredibly strongly with my late grandmother. I'm sitting here across the room and all I can think about is 20 years of playing rummy around the table with her while she hummed "Oh, by gosh, by golly."

Plans for the rest of tonight: Jeopardy!, Pushing Daisies, wrapping presents. (Word on the street is it's the most wonderful time of the year, you guys. CHRIIIIIIIIIISTMAS.)

I'm thinking about changing my default icon again, just because everytime I see it now I'm thinking about tiny eskimo Willow and it distracts me a little bit from the Frankieness. On the other hand, it kind of makes it totally awesome. DECISIONS. Edit: I did end up changing it! Now I still have Frankie, but he's not waving to me in a stupid hoodie, he's just smoking a cigarette in a van. Still good!

Anyway. I'm going to go look at more pictures of Pete Wentz's stupid face. What are you guys up to?
schmerica: (cute and fuzzy and innocent)
"It's like baby!Paul Gross, Jonathan Rhys-Myers and Lance Bass formed a band with a Viking and a Dude with Crazy Hair."

Me to [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 about 10 minutes ago. As you might have guessed, I'm still happily burying myself in MCR pimping. YOU GUYS. I think I am a little bit in love with Gerard Way. I just-- I want to carry him around in my pocket and pinch his little cheeks! His SMILE! His earnestness! I just. NAWWWWWWWW.

*cough*

Today I woke up really early because no one else was home and I had to be up to let in the workers for the drywall. Not one worker has shown up so far. Lame. Very lame.

I'm applying for jobs again -- mostly temp stuff or clerical and office work, although yesterday I filled out an application at a really cute used bookstore. La la la, I need money, la la la.

I am totally being a procrastinator on my ds match fic. I mean, I have it planned out, I know the story I want to write, and I'm going to have it done on time ... but argh, writing is HARD, you guys. Did you know that? Why has none of you ever mentioned this before?

Self-study latin news: I have reached the third declension and it kind of freaks me out. I was getting into a groove, you know. [livejournal.com profile] speshope reassures me that I will adapt quickly and that all the really freaky stuff is still to come.
schmerica: (happy endings for everybody)
1) My broken computer works again and has been returned to me. Yay.

2) I interviewed for an internship on Wednesday, and found out yesterday I didn't get it.

3) I'm starting both school (part-time) and work (also part-time) within the next two weeks.

4) I just defriended a whole lot of people, from a mixture of reasons including falling behind while computer was broken; expecting my time online to decrease soon; and general fandom interests changing.

5) I just rewatched French Kiss last week and it made me want fanfic. Which led me to the conclusion that I kind of feel that way about any romantic comedy, really, when it has characters I like. "But when happens after they kiss?" You can't just cut away to them kissing in a vineyard. Bleh." With "kissing in a vineyard" replaced as the case warrants, of course.

6) It's Saturday night, so I'm sure half of you are off having a life or something. Everybody else: share with me a piece of fannish joy? Pictures, news, rumors, recs, whatever has MADE YOUR LIFE for this week. Tell me!
schmerica: (everything awesome is cancelled)
1. Job: grocery store deli clerk, training starts the 10th. Yay money.

2. School: taking Latin three mornings a week in Portland, starting the 24th.

3. Money: UO still hasn't gotten back to me on the results of the petition I sent them about last term's tuition, which means I probably have to call them tomorrow. Bleh.

4. Internships: have applied for an editorial internship at a crazy New Age hippie book publisher in Hillsboro. Fingers crossed.

5. Computer: laptop is still at Gateway, getting poked at. Best Buy told me it would probably be about two weeks, so I expect I still have a week to go before they send it back.

6. Insomnia: it sucks.

7. Food: I am craving peanut M&M's like a crazy person. Damn you, menstruation!

8. TV: I have continued this summer's habit of watching nothing except Doctor Who, the Daily Show, the Colbert Report, and Big Brother 8. Although since three of those shows aren't doing much this week, it means the burden is on Big Brother 8 to provide all entertainment value. [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 always wins in the end.

9. Books: books rock. Goodreads is making it really easy for me to keep track of just how much I've read this year -- 138 as of now, counting from my birthday on December 13th. This includes 32 in the "sffantasy" category, 29 in "romance", 23 in "ya" (some of those overlapping, of course.) I expect the romance numbers of going to go up significantly in the next week or so, because I'm having an itch just for historical romance novels lately, and they're quick reads.

10. Fandom: is awesome, even if it is the dog days of summer and I am sapped of all creative spirit ever. Hi, you guys. ♥

It's been raining steadily since I woke up this morning, which is just fabulous: there's nothing more comforting than the grey skies and the sound of the raindrops outside. I missed you, rain! Summer always wants to drive us apart!

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo replied to the Frannie story I posted using her Miss Fraser icon. This means I now have the idea of Miss Fraser/Frannie in my head. I admit mine is a sick mind.

This week's goal is to start applying to lots of jobs. I will let you imagine the fun involved in this for yourselves!

Here, let's have a poll.

[Poll #1023103]
schmerica: (the creative process)
It is a hundred degrees outside. This is pretty horrifying, since people in the Pacific Northwest melt once it gets above 90. Blah blah blah the problem with having mild weather fifty-one weeks a year is the total inability to deal with the other week blah blah blah.

One room in my house has air conditioning and is shut off from the rest of the house like a cave. It is very pleasant to hole up in during this weather. Sadly, it is not the same room where the internet is available! I love you so much, lj, but not enough to leave the air conditioning more than a few times a day.

I think my next project for this summer should be trying to vid. Down side: vidding is really, really, really hard. Up side: ..........

No, I'm sure there's something. I keep coming back to it, so there has to be SOME reason, right? Right! Vidding woo.

I have sucessfully pimped my sister into Doctor Who, only to find the rental place doesn't carry any of the dvds. Between that and slow internet, I am being thwarted. Lame!

In conclusion, Ray Kowalski!

We all know you're soft cause we've all seen you dancing
We all know you're hard cause we all saw you drinking from noon
Until noon again
You're the boy with the filthy laugh

Belle & Sebastian is so far down on the list of bands I would ever expect to make me think of Ray, AND YET. Also, "filthy laugh" is a wonderful phrase.
schmerica: (family)
I just added a bunch of random people to facebook, because I was bored. If you see an unfamiliar Erica [Unpronouncable Last Name] claiming she knows you, it is probably me.

Today we moved all my stuff out of Eugene. Which, huge pain? But now it is DONE. I am all DONE with it, and I don't have to go back down there till next year. Yay.

I finally watched the NCIS season finale tonight, and it made me go EEP! and OMIGOD! and EWWW and AWW. And then we got to the end and my mother and I both went "BUT-- BUT-- You can't just stop!"

CLIFFHANGERS. *shakes fist* Summer, go fast, okay?
schmerica: (porn - wait for it - ography)
I haven't been really posting at all this week, I realize, but it's not because I'm off having horrible things happening to me and making people worry. I've been home since Sunday, and I think I was totally right about getting out of Eugene being the best thing I could do at this point.

I'm being weirdly not very fannish at the moment, though I don't know why. The most obvious evidence of this is that when the "tell me what you want me to write!" meme was going around, I didn't comment to ANYBODY's. You guys, usually I spend half my day telling people what to write for me, you know?

I'm doing a lot of reading, which is awesome. BOOKS! LIBRARY! YAY! Lots of YA fantasy for me.

Question: if a girl wanted to do research on werewolves, potentially for writing later on, what sources do you find useful?

Monday night TV is amazingly awesome. Heroes! How I Met Your Mother! Both of them equal as much love and devotion as you can imagine from me. Tomorrow: GREY'S OMG. TV, you are great sometimes.
schmerica: (try as hard as you can)
So my new laptop came with a trial period of Microsoft Office, which just ran out on April 30. I don't have money to convert to the actual product, so it's gone now. I do still have two files saved, containing my "books read so far this year" and "books I want to read sometime in the future". They're saved in .docx format, though, so I can't open them in Open Office. Do any of you guys have Word 2007, so I could email you the files and you could just copy and paste the information into a text file for me? Because ... books! Recordkeeping is important. Edited to add: DONE! Thank you so much to all you guys who offered to help.

I very much need to go grocery shopping. This is yet another one of those times when my not having a constant companion to take care of me and take me places really sucks.

I do have an untouched five pound bag of (white, long-grain) rice, though. What's good, simple and hopefully cheap with plain rice, anyway?

I'm lying on my stomach on my bed, using my laptop, and the kitty is lying across the small of my back. It's nice.

I think I shall go watch Supernatural now, since Fox isn't online to discuss last night's Grey's Anatomy.
schmerica: (billy tallent you dirty whore)
So I went home this weekend. I left Eugene about this time on Friday, and I got back yesterday at three. I was checking my email the whole time, but otherwise I ended up taking an unplanned internet vacation for the long weekend. If I had planned it, I would have figured I would go absolutely nuts, but it was actually really nice and peaceful.

Here is what I did this weekend: I slept a lot. I read a lot. I played a lot of The Sims 2. I cuddled with my baby sister (who is EIGHTEEN OMG). I ate ice cream (Klondike Caramel Pretzel bars = very tasty). I unloaded all my crazy onto my mom, who actually made me feel a tiny bit better and who reminded me of the all the reasons I don't want to drop out of school.

I have to study for my bio test tomorrow, which is the only reason I will be doing anything other than playing more of the Sims 2 today. (P.S., I figured out how to make it work. Yay me.)

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 has informed me she officially loves me a tiny bit less, because I did not inform her that Callum Keith Rennie had been cast in "Tin Man". I explained to her that I did not KNOW that CKR was going to be in it until she told me, but this is apparently not a good enough excuse. But whatever, I am getting some points back for posting this entry.

Seriously. YOU GUYS. How awesome is this miniseries going to be? First: weird and twisted retelling of Wizard of Oz = would be awesome anyway. Second: Alan Cumming!!!! BWEE. My longest standing and still quite profound celebrity boycrush of awesomeness and cuteness and queerness. And now, thirdly: CALLUM. <3<3<3

This is not least exciting because it means now all of fandom will have to watch it. Hee.

+ tom kha gai, the food of the gods
+ Ray Kowalski
+ only two months left until graduation!
+ my comfy comfy bed
+ the story [livejournal.com profile] etben and I started plotting out on Friday
+ visiting [livejournal.com profile] roz_mcclure next week
+ the cuteness of David Tennant as the Doctor. (With his little glasses, and his sneakers, and awwww.)
+ [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 and [livejournal.com profile] hobbledehoy. Just in general.

I had more things I meant to put in that list, but I've forgotten what they were.

I find myself in one of those moods where I want to change everything and trim and clean and neaten it. Last night I got the urge to get rid of all my icons. I figure this is one of the things that is probably a passing urge I should not submit to, but if I keep feeling this way long enough, I might give in and see if I can trim down to just 20 or so that I really want to keep to express myself.

If I still feel edgy like this after that, maybe I'll erase all my lj interests and start from scratch.

I have noticed an annoying trend to my dreams lately. They seem to be all set-up, and never get to the good part! I have dreams about finally getting to a break, and having lots of vacation of excitements, except I only get the planning and annoying details and awful travel soul-killing bits, and wake up before the fun part. Or I dream about all the awkward stupid bits of dating and association with boys, without ever getting to the smooching. Not on, dreamscape. Not on at all.

I keep listening to the same eight Mountain Goats songs on repeat over and over and over and over. I need mooooooooooore. Help me, people! Help!

Elizabeth Taylor is bored of your shenanigans.
schmerica: (grey's: gluttony)
Here are three things that I think are great:

1) I passed all my classes this term, so I am definitely graduating in June YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY.

2) My vacation has rocked so far, and I still have all of muskrat jamboree ahead of me.

3) By the time I got to this defamer entry about Grey's Anatomy, Disney had already pulled the clip from youtube. But I did get to watch THIS today, and honestly, does it get much better than this? I THINK NOT. So much booze! Addison is a pirate! Dempsey throws coffee on people! Fox, you need to watch this NOW. Unless you have already seen it, in which case you lose for not making ME watch it before this.
schmerica: (pretty: ellen page)
YOU GUYS I TURNED IN MY LAST FINAL THIS MORNING! I AM DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE! I AM A ROCK STAR! YAY!

I also have caught up with How I Met Your Mother all the way up to this week's episode. This show is so awesome it's not even funny, you guys. Seriously, it always just looked like Random Crappy Sitcom #163! I would never, ever have guessed that this much coolness was hidden inside. "Slap Bet" is now on my list of top half hours of television ever.

Actually, you know, I think the most impressive part of all might be the fact that I never would have guessed I would be able to see Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, or Neil Patrick Harris in ANYTHING without automatically going "Willow Rosenberg! Nick Andopolis! Doogie Howser!" But they have somehow totally managed to become Lily, Marshall and Barney for me. Cool.

I was going to allow myself a soda today as a reward for finishing everything, but I am not actually sure how I will get ahold of one right now. I have been doing pretty good about not drinking for the last three weeks or so, but I am really craving one today. And WINTER QUARTER IS OVER WOOOOOOOO.

Since Friday afternoon, I have consumed the first 20 episodes of How I Met Your Mother. Result: I'm sort of love it, you guys. This is the first show I have ever seen where the characters make just as liberal a use of the word AWESOME as me and the people I know! That alone is worth many many many points. Plus, Willow and Nick Andopolis (aka that redheaded girl and the tall guy) keep making out adorably.

Notable guest stars so far include Neil and Bill from F+G (Freaks and Geek mafia, woo!), Mr. Aly Hannigan (Alexis Denisof), and the chick who played Charlie on Ugly Betty and Heroes, who looked really cute.

[livejournal.com profile] speshope drove me around Springfield and Eugene today so I could pick up my sociolinguistics final and some juice with insane amounts of vitamin C. Spes is awesome. And then we went to her house and watched a movie while I poked at her cat.

Next up in my exciting day: 45 minutes of YARDWORK with MY ROOMMATES! You guys, it was like a party. A really dirty party held outdoors that required a great deal of weeding and dirt and sweat and squatting.

Studying for my 8 am Monday phonetics exam! Possibly watching more of How I Met Your Mother. And ... maybe another shower, because see above re: sweat and dirt.

I got this new icon from [livejournal.com profile] poisoninjest. Cadbury Creme Eggs are my favorite seasonal treat! And as I commented to her, I think this icon has serious layers -- one tiny little square of candy and it somehow manages to be delicious, a little disgusting, and vaguely unsettling! Hard-working, man.
schmerica: (ds: even though you feel like crying)
Hi! It's Saturday! And also St Patrick's Day, which I forgot until I got on the internet and saw the shamrock on Google!

What are you guys up to today? I am listening to Neko Case and thinking about how I am going to sort out all my clothes and start my million loads of laundry today. Plus I am pondering writing porn later -- I really want to write, but I don't know what! Suggestions? (They will probably not click, but you never know.)

I am making an exception for my soda-free existence just for the day, because yesterday I was super super productive, and I got locked out of the house, and I'm getting sick, and it is finals weekend, and I'm stressed out. So there. *nurses my Coke*

Whatever, here's a picture of Ray Kowalski being hot. cut for image )

Things to note: jeans-covered legs that look eight miles long; his dorky flippy glasses; his dog tags or whatever he has around his neck; the fact that he's wearing that weird blazer over paper thin tshirt and jeans. Oh, Ray.

What the hell, have another two: cut again )

Thing to note THIS time: baseball cap; shoulder holster; badge; wrist and bracelet; freaky abnormally long yet still hot thumb; BICEPS OMG.

HEY GUYS GUESS WHO MANAGED TO LOCK THEMSELVES OUT OF THEIR HOUSE FOR THE SECOND TIME IN ONE TERM?

(Hint: me.)

Yeaaaah, I'm a pretty princess. I went outside to water the plants this evening and didn't realize my roommate had locked the door when she left the house earlier this afternoon.

There are very few things in this world I have more disdain for at the moment than locked doors which allow you to exit without unlocking. I NEED TECHNOLOGY TO SAVE ME FROM MY OWN STUPIDITY.

Still, getting locked out today from apparently eighty billion times more pleasant then when it happened in January. For one thing, it was for about 40 minutes instead of 5 hours. For another, it was 68 degrees and sunny out instead of 32 degrees and snowing. Furthermore, I was wearing clothes (not pajamas) AND shoes! It was not unlike when I was child and my parents used to force me to stay outside for a while despite my hatred for the sun, really.

Anyway. This hated term is almost over, though! I finished both the big projects today, so all that is left is finals -- an exam on Monday, and take-homes due on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then it will be vacation and THEN it will be jamboree! WOOT.

I told [livejournal.com profile] aerye a couple hours ago how I was thinking about various topics in my Vecchio love. Like Vecchio het (you know he's totally a great lover). And my huge button for cute!uncle!Vecchio, and protective!older!brother!Vecchio (man, I crave more teenage Vecchio fic SO HARD), which led me a brain tangent earlier about how I think Vecchio would actually be a really, really good dad. Better than either of the other due South guys, I would think.

EDITED TO ADD: Also when I was locked outside I found myself staring into space and decided that Karen/Jim/Pam would be the Worst, Most Awkward, Spectacularly Ill-Advised Threesome in the History of the World.
schmerica: (btvs: cordy has a heart)
Okay, so I have to tell you guys, I caved on my soda ban today. Which, you know, I had a very stressful week! Tomorrow I will start over from scratch, and hopefully it will stick this time.

But for tonight -- okay, I am pretty sure I have the house to myself, which I always love. Friday nights with me and the cat = PARTY. Plans currently consist of pizza, forbidden soda, catching up with the Fair Game podcasts, singing along really loudly with my music, and possibly some prep work for the vid I am really excited about. YAY.

Oh, and, the really stressful week thing I referred to back there? Seriously, I cannot express how grateful I am for all of you who commented on Wednesday's entry, every single comment. I almost cried that night, you guys. I was sniffling to [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 about how nice the internet is. It was exactly what I needed this week, and I feel like a really lucky girl to have such kind friends and to be respected by people I admire so much.

(Oh my gosh, how many of you am I going to meet in ONLY FOUR WEEKS? It makes me shudder in joy and anticipation to think about it! YAY MUSKRATS.)
schmerica: (comics: gert and old lace)
[livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee just forced me to watch another Fall Out Boy interview -- I know, the things I do for friendship, right? It's an older one where there's a part where they mention their favorite touring stories, and start talking about drawing penises on the face of drunk guys. Which is to say, teabagging is seriously like only a small step away from canon, isn't it?

Starting tomorrow, I am giving up soda pop. I am announcing this to the entire internet in the hopes that the more people know about it, the more likely I am to stick with it, because I'll have to admit to more people and have more shame if I fail. I was telling my mom on the phone today that I actually kind of wish I had someone with me who was quitting something big, like smoking, at the same time, so whenever I felt whiny I could look at them and be like "suck it up, erica, they're managing it, and they're doing something much, much harder!" But then my mom told me that apparently my dad has been cigarette-free since January 2nd, which, AWESOME.

The Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive was on another one of my podcasts this afternoon. I still think Sam Carter beats the pants off him.

These are the interests I currently have listed in my facebook profile:

linguistics, history, gossip, cooking, feminism, geekiness, science fiction, fantasy, unicorns, zombies, comic books, striped socks, pink glitter, weeks of rainy days, second run theaters, trashy television, quiz shows, npr podcasts, romance novels, bookstores, driving around aimlessly, being AWESOME, capslock abuse, ya writers' blogs

I'm sort of proud by how well that shows my personality.

Back to my evening of comic books and crossword puzzles!
