You know, before the 80 millionth time watching it (the small children like puppies), I never noticed that one of the ways we're clued in Cruella DeVil is evil in the live action 101 Dalmatians is through her feminist leanings.

Anita is good because she wants to get married and have babies and finally get away from this job -- which is good enough now, but not after she has a *family*. Dearie me, no!

But, god, we shouldn't even be surprised Cruella is a ruthless puppy killer. She's obviously one of those man-hating ambitious women. You know how *they* are.

Huh. I never saw that one, but I may add it to my list of reasons I don't like Disney's messages. Should probably see the movie first.

(Do not get me started on how many dalmations and clownfish have ended up dead because of Disney movies and parents who don't know how to say NO to inappropriate pets....)

It's not worth watching, really, anyway; it's pointless and drags on.

Yo, I was an animal shelter volunteer at the same time the live-action 101 came out. Before then, we'd maybe get one dalmation in a month. But within a few months? We always had at least one. Usually more. It was disgusting.

We also got more chihuahuas than ever before after that Taco Bell dog became popular.

Interestingly enough, these two breeds of animals, marketed to children, are actually two of the worst dogs one could possibly give to a child. They're both high-strung and tend to be nervous and don't like being prodded at, and Dalmations need a whole lot of attention and exercise.

Dude, you're right! Even when I was little, there was a line that annoyed me about her being a crazy woman driver, but I never even noticed the rest of it.

I did watch the live-action sequel a couple of years ago when I was babysitting, and I had to bite my tongue to keep from going off in a rant ("So what are they saying? That people are just born evil, and they can't really change?") about it in front of the little girl I was watching.

That line does sound horribly out place. Admittedly, it's some crotchety old man saying it (for some reason, I always think of him as French. Maybe because he's somehow connected to De Ville, which is a French sounding name...)

The crazy woman driver line in the cartoon doesn't bother me *too* much, because it's kinda a random character guy whom we're not even necessarily supposed to agree with -- I mean, *we* know why she's acting like that. It's not coming straight from the text the way the annoyingness seems to.

Man, I watch all these cartoons with the small children all day long, and I have to keep all these thoughts to myself. Except the ones I remember to put on lj. I don't think I ever did the entry about how disturbing Ariel's youth is in the Little Mermaid (and how King Triton was kind of hot for an old guy, aside from the fishgenitals)/

*crosses the movie off list of Disney Movies she loves...*

A list, incidentally, which is currently Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Fox and the Hound. Do you have criticism to make those horrible too? DO YOU?

*sobs*

No, honey, it's okay! The *cartoon* version is still charming!

(Although, the Fox and the Hound? Really? That one kinda just ... sucks.)

No! No! The Fox and the Hound is sad and beautiful. I cry every time I watch it, especially in that part where the old lady takes the fox out to the woods and leaves him there. Because they're both so sad. And the music's so sad! Wahhh!

Disney, although generally cool about ethnicity and gay/lesbian matters, has some truly FUCKED UP subtexts about women's issues. I remember The Princess Diaries making me extraordinarily angry.

Man, all I remember about The Princess Diaries is that it had Julie Andrews and the girl from Get Real in it. The rest of it has drifted off somewhere.

I hate Disney. Disney is evil.

(Excepting The Nightmare Before Christmas which gets a pass as it's Tim Burton + Danny Elfman goodness.)
